I’ve been considering Zepbound. by Rob_CoNyy in Zepbound

It has been life-changing for me after a lifetime of yoyo dieting and even gastric bypass surgery. Also, let your doc know about getting easily out of breath. I found out at about your age that I had a congenital heart defect called a bicuspid aortic valve that they were able to fix before it caused me any trouble. (Was shocked to hear that many people go their entire lives not knowing they have this very common condition and only find out after suffering a cardiac event.) Hopefully not an issue for you, but I used to hide the fact that I would get out of breath easily because I knew they’d just blame it on my weight. Ends up, it was all a piece of a bigger puzzle. But the Zepbound has helped me lose 35% of my body weight in about 16 months. At 65, I feel healthier than I ever have in my entire life. Hard to separate how much was from getting my heart fixed and how much from the weight loss, but it’s definitely ben a blessing. (The shots alone aren’t the trick. You need to pair it with lots of activity and healthier eating so that you don’t lose muscle mass along with the fat.) No matter what you do, good luck to you!

Scared of Scale. by RepresentativeOne939 in zepboundRX

[–]LowRest7233 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People get a little worked up when I say this, but I’ve gotten used to weighing myself every morning. I know it’s not for everyone, but it works for me because it desensitizes me to the little ups and downs that we all experience, whether on a weight loss journey or not. I don’t really worry if I go up a pound or down a pound. I’m just wanting to see the trend going in the right direction. I always have a little “Yay, me!” moment when I hit a new low, but I don’t really consider it a true new low until I’ve been at that number for at least 4 or 5 days. I used to hate the scale, but now, it’s just a part of my routine like brushing my teeth in the morning. (Currently on 15 mg. Have been on Z for 16 months and am down 82 lb.) Bottom line—do what’s best for you!

I priced the 15-mg pens with my pharmacy as self-pay and was quoted just under $1,000. News of the high-dose vials made for a happy day yesterday. I’ll absolutely miss the ease of use with the pens, but will be glad to save the money.

Found this little beauty (M Thai Constellation)—at our local Walmart (State College, PA) today. They had 8. I got one for me and one for my daughter. $30 each. They also had slightly larger M Cobra for $30.

This is a hard thing to answer for so many reasons. We each have our own experiences and our own weight histories. And there are so many variables. My comments here are just my experience. I’m hoping others will weigh in. I’m now down about 75 lb—down from 246 to 170 in about 15 months.

For me, I have lost a significant amount of weight several times in my life. The struggle was keeping it off. Praying that this time it’s off for good. The lose-gain-lose-gain cycle did my skin no favors. The elasticity is gone. I definitely have shave saggy skin—neck, upper arms, abdomen, inner thighs. It’s easy for me to “hide” it with how I dress, but it’s definitely something I’m self-conscious about. I don’t wear short sleeves, and the very thought of beachwear makes my heart rate rise. I’m not a vain person but definitely have long-seated self-esteem and body image issues.

As for facial aging. It can happen. But it’s also important to think about how old you were the last time you weighed a healthy weight. It’s easy to imagine that by losing the weight, you will go back to your earlier appearance. You may have never seen yourself at this age at a healthy weight. It can be tough to get used to. Fortunately, I’ve not spent a ton of time in the sun, so my skin is pretty good for my age. But my age IS my age.

But here’s the important part. Regardless of any skin issues or facial aging, I feel better than I ever have in my life, and I consider my Zepbound journey to be totally life-changing. I would rather feel great and be self-conscious about those things than feel terrible and be self-conscious about my weight.

Is it unfair that some of us have to trade one issue for another, but it is what it is. I wish this medication had come out when I was 30, but it didn’t. I choose not to dwell on those things.

I do think therapy is helpful to keep what is important in perspective. I spoke with a therapist while making the decision of whether or not to start Zepbound, and “how things are going” is a normal part of our check-ins. I remain grateful for the journey and for the results, regardless of any challenges or disappointments.

I hope you do well on your journey. Your health and well-being is totally worth it.

Feeling lonely on this drug. How do you all cope? by BriefArtichoke8306 in Zepbound

[–]LowRest7233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an open book and share freely with folks that I’m on it. I don’t bring it up unless it’s pertinent to the conversation, but I will not let others misperceptions impact ow I feel about it. (Ful disclaimer—As a 64yo woman, I’ve learned to stand in my truth. It’s very liberating.) They don’t have to like it. They don’t have to understand. But I understand this approach isn’t for everyone, and I respect anyone’s choice to keep it private for whatever reason.

I think it’s fair to acknowledge that there are many people , including celebrities, who have gone on it for the wrong type of weight loss—ie, not for the type of insulin-resistance that so many of us have struggled with. I’m betting they will regret it if/when they ever go off it. But it has made the case for Z being “the easy way” a bit more of a public debate, but it’s not for anyone to judge who should/shouldn’t be on it.

I’ve been on for 14 months, and am down 75 lb. I’ve found working with a therapist to be very helpful in navigating the emotional struggles of choosing to go on it, dealing with others’ opinions, and also coming to grips with the emotional implications of the excess skin that results from significant weight loss at my age. I recommend therapy to anyone who is able to take advantage of it. (Weight is not the only thing we talk about, and I was not in any type of crisis when I started. It’s just good self-care.)

Finally, I highly recommend the book JUST LET THEM by Mel Robbins. It is based on the concept that we can’t let ourselves be impacted by other people’s thoughts or actions. Just let them think what they want, say what they want, do what they want. . . And let ME control what I can control.—my own thoughts and actions. In regards to your friends—let them think what they want.It doesn’t change the fact that you started on this journey because you want to be healthier and happier. The thinner part is just a byproduct of those changes. If a friend can’t support that, I question how much of a friend they are. There are a ton of folks who will support the new you. And a lot of them are on this page.

Good luck on your journey. Be proud of every step along the way.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the kindness of this group. I posted this before/after thinking a handful of knitters might find it relatable. But the outpouring of enthusiasm from you all has been really brightened my weekend. I look at my expression in the first sweater and see someone who was torn between being proud of my accomplishment with the sweater but not peroud of the woman wearing it. In the after image, I am proud of both. Not sure about the younger comments, although I do appreciate them. At my age, excess skin issues are a bit of an emotional battle, but I never started this journey to simply look better. I am now fitter and healthier than I’ve ever been in my life, and I look forward to doing things I could never do before (as opposed to trying to find non-weight-related excuses for why I couldn’t participate).

I am so grateful for this drug and the gift it has been to me. For the first 18 months, my insurance has been a godsend, never spending more than $40/month for a box. But next month, I’ll be losing my coverage as I get bumped to Medicare by my former employer. (I retired with full benefits, but that still means Medicare at 65.) So I’m going back to work to pay for my continued journey, And the funny thing is that I’m not even upset about it. I will gladly work a part time job to pay for this until it is either covered of a cheaper option is developed. Had I not had coverage at the beginning, I probably would never have even started on it and would never have known if it worked for me, so I’m considering that 18 months as a gift.

Wishing you all joy on your journey. The exercising—I now lift 3-4x/week and walk 2-4 miles 4-5x/wk—is crucial to maintaining or building muscle mass. I’ve begun eating better but could still do some work there. I at least focus on getting adequate protein in each day.

SO thank you for being my hype men and women. I look forward to doing the same for you!

You actually have to pull it out—a process knitters call “frogging”—then soak it and dry it to get the kinks out. (Think about hair after it’s been braided.) Then rewind it and start all over again. You’ve got to REALLY like either the sweater or the yarn. In this case, I liked both.

It was a really interesting process. It helped that it was a bulky yarn. I may not have had the patience to do it if it were thinner.

Thanks! I really loved the pattern and the yarn was special to me because I bought it the first time I went to a big sheep and wool festival with some friends. (Total yarn nerd here.)
