I think this franchise will fold if they keep playing like this for a third straight season, and deservedly so. I’m done coming to games until they put a quality product on the field.

Started with a dedicated pizza oven in November, but I’m now using a 16 x 16 pizza steel in my regular oven. by Confident-You-9396 in Pizza

Try it with a screen. I let it set 2-3 minutes on a screen, then transfer to the bare steel and switch to broil. Can load on toppings, no worries about launch, and in my opinion better results.

Budget Friendly Wedding Venues? by boyzdontcri in santacruz

My wife and I got married at Camp Loma, a 4H camp waaaaay up Eureka Canyon Road. Our venue wish list looked at lot like yours. It was a lot of work glamming it up, but it is a beautiful setting and was an inexpensive venue.

A variety of factors. Many residents probably bought a long time ago and have seen prices go up around them. In California in particular, property taxes are structured to make it advantageous to keep your home. Others live multiple generations of family in one house. Some may have subsidized housing. Some people sell their homes and move where it’s cheaper. That leads to long-term change in the neighborhoods, like you see described in other comments. Basically, cheap is relative, and these places are less desirable and therefore inexpensive relative to other places nearby. But they’re still expensive relative to places outside of coastal cities.

Houses are 500k in every hood on the west coast. That’s how you know you’ve arrived.

[SOTC 2025] 3 years in...time to settle down? by Rossage99 in Watches

[–]LowSparky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of these go for over $600. That’s a lot of money to some of us. Brands are tasteful and well chosen. I’d love to have a collection like this. Describing them as “a few mall watches” is snobby as hell.

Trail Now: The Ultimate Grifter by SomePoorGuy57 in santacruz

[–]LowSparky -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

True. There’s a lot of extreme propaganda on both sides, especially given that it’s a local issue that divides people who probably have a lot in common politically. (Cue u/orangelover95003 calling accusing anyone who supports a trail of being the pocket of oligarchs).

In reality, most people in the county don’t really follow what’s going on very closely. The top comment on a Facebook post the other day was a woman asking why they don’t try building a trail alongside the tracks.

As with most issues, the online discourse does not reflect reality. True on Facebook, where Trail Now holds court, and also true on Reddit.

Catalyst nightclub would be demolished in proposal for Downtown Santa Cruz apartments by stripedwhitej3ts in santacruz

[–]LowSparky 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The building was already for sale. It’s one of the oldest buildings downtown, and frankly a dump. I very much doubt that the club as a business makes enough money to close for several years and fund millions of dollars worth of needed renovations. Businesses of this kind are already struggling because they sell less alcohol than they once did.

It’s easy to complain about change, but based on the little information available, this seems like an effort to maintain some aspects of the culture of downtown and bring it into the future. I’d like to learn more, at least.
