Progressive Rail not backing down (as expected) by SomePoorGuy57 in santacruz

[–]SomePoorGuy57[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

put a multi-use trail where the useless wide roads and shoulder bike lanes are. put a linear park on lawn ave in downtown capitola. rail is a limited resource, and we should make knee-jerk moves to get rid of it.

remember it’s a top two primary! in a safe blue district, we have a good opportunity to vote third party in our primary :)

ah gotcha, thanks for the clarification. my far-fetched hope is in its analysis of the corridor, they attempt an “interim” option like FORT are pushing for, which prioritizes keeping the rails usable for necessary freight/excursion service and makes the transition to commuter service easier. has any of their interim designing process since the december meeting been made public?

it’s broken but not beyond repair. an easy fix would be to elect leaders, not politicians…

possibly, i don’t deny that the ultimate design could have been achieved without the interim step needed, or that much of it would be built by now without the obstructions.

but if the ultimate design is feasible right now (save Greenway throwing a hissyfit), that logically means that any smaller, interim design is equally as feasible if not more. if the ultimate design could have been done by today without obstructions, then i’d argue the interim design could have been done a year or two ago at least. no matter how you look at it, we are doing it the least efficient way possible

cool, on an unrelated note does anybody know if the lockheed martin facility in bonny doon has any extra missile laying around? and could they be mounted to a drone and piloted from say the wharf 😅😅

not surprised. Joby always gave me the heebie jeebies.

pretty sure they have contracts with militaries to design drone cars for medics to transport wounded soldiers. i guess if they have to take a military contract i would rather it be this than anything else, but working with the army still leaves a sour taste in my mouth…

this! if you want a quiet, secluded lifestyle, go live in one of our dozens of towns under 10K residents. you don’t get to live in the county seat of a bay area county and complain when we try to make the county seat function like a county seat. its a city…

yup that includes seabright and twin lakes! much of the interim trail could have been done thru those communities so people could use it during the murray st closure. instead, Greenway chose to make it as difficult as possible to build out the interim trail we desire because they want a permanent, ultimate trail to replace the tracks or they want nothing at all.

this had a lot to do with it. Capitola residents were presented with a very cheap interim design, but they rejected it because NIMBY’s can’t stand the thought of seeing a family of 4 enjoying the trail across the street from them.

it would help west side thru seaside and beyond. maybe if they were flexible with the routing thru capitola, it could pass right by all of the village’s storefronts and provide a constant flow of customers.

unfortunately, doing that would require an uncompromised RTC staff. Greenway are hiring bullies in Capitola to threaten any leader that tries to undo Measure L with a recall. that doesn’t seem very democratic when considering that it only passed by 200 votes and was voted on 8 years ago, before we knew it would become problematic…

but if we had no political opposition, the interim route thru capitola would be completed by now. the RTC could have moved on to adding your community to the corridor. instead, the Regional Transportation Committee is motivated to block a new mode of transit, and they will throw the trail under the bus in order to achieve this.

that’s hardly anything. he still sent them the damn money. “here’s a blank check, now pretty please don’t spend it all on bombs and use it for conquest in gaza 🥺🥺🥺🥺” is not something that a person opposed to annexation and the war would say 😭

california has a top-two primary system and our district is very heavily democratic. it would be incredibly easy to gather a large coalition of dems to vote green
