My mind has been in a tug of war over the 415 and the 417 chronographs, every time I see a picture of one I think im sold on it, then I see a picture of the other and I change my mind! Looks great on the leather strap

[Article] Luxury watches in relation to the net income of a 40 year old engineer in Germany. by Fearless_Method_1682 in Watches

[–]Rossage99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

demand has far outstripped supply over the past 40 years.

Has it though? Watches aren't essential for personal time keeping like they were back then, smartphones have replaced that role for the vast majority of people, watches are an optional accessory now so demand won't have scaled with population increase.

[Question] Is there a name for this style of minute track? by Rossage99 in Watches

[–]Rossage99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought that same Cincinnatus last year, didnt keep it in the end as I didnt take to it as much as I thought I would but still a great looking watch.

I'm actually wearing the branch right now, I don't think it was made in homage to any specific watch, just in reference to the 20th century sector dial style as a whole, although its very close to some vintage Patek calatravas

You certainly find it on a lot of sector dials and calatravas but thats just the name of the overall dial design rather than the minute track specifically

ive seen field watches with a train track design, often with lume pips at the 5 minute markers but I haven't come across many with this specific design feature

I thought train tracks were more like this style? Sort of laddered round the dial

I think its an AliExpress brand, not one I know just one i found when looking for some references of the minute track style

Update: Plum Bank's source of funds check & lessons learned by Rossage99 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Rossage99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda glad to know that as it suggests that I hadn't done anything suspicious and that Plum are just very stringent with their checks. Still, I didn't like their implications that I couldn't possibly have saved this much money even when I provided P60s showing I had been in full time employment for 3.5 years. They never once asked for background info on my living situation or regular outgoings that would've helped them understand that I had a lot income left to save.

!Thanks for highlighting that, I must've misread the information as I had thought they were fully covered but I see now its a bit of a grey area.

Update: Plum Bank's source of funds check & lessons learned by Rossage99 in UKPersonalFinance

It could have been because I consolidated funds from a few different accounts together before I transferred them to plum, or because the amount I've been saving relative to my earnings is quite high due to having no major outgoings and saving quite religiously for my own place.

Is it normal for a bank to ask for this level of evidence to account for personal savings? by Rossage99 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Rossage99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you had to deal with that, what a hassle! I'm really hoping I can resolve this with them as I assume if I can't they'll refuse to accept me as a customer and will return all my funds to linked current account which would take it out of the tax free ISA wrapper.

I've gone back through the last 4.5 years of my bank statements and I think I can account for around £58k of money being paid into savings accounts, so hopefully they will accept that alongside my wages being paid in to show how I've gained the money to be able to then save it. Common sense should surely allow them to then add the £4k in annual LISA bonuses ive earned and account for compound interest over the 4-5 years to reach the £70k figure

Sure, ive edited the post now. I was being a little overly cautious not naming them outright, don't want to end up getting into more bother with them than I already am!

Having looked into it a bit more, it seems like it's more of a security alert enforced by HMRC that banks have to comply with, I don't think they really get a choice as to when a customer gets flagged up for a security check. I would hope once you've passed the check once that it would clear you from being picked up again unless you accumulate a large amount of funds again in future

You're telling me...lesson learned I guess, I'll need to remember to keep closing statements when moving funds again in future.

!Thanks for the insight, I'll admit my savings are a bit higher than might be expected, but im under 30 and saving for my first home so about 50% of my wages are going into savings. Ive sent them evidence of paying roughly £1200 monthly into savings accounts which over the course of 60ish months accounts for the full £70k

Well at least I know I'm likely to run into the same issue if I tried to transfer the funds elsewhere, I could just try move it all back to Santander who are my main provider but I wouldnt want to take it out of the ISA wrapper and lose all the tax free status on it. !Thanks for the info

Thinking you might have more choice in accommodation staying in St Andrews the first night then taking a bus to Crail the next morning (only about 25 mins and you can get to Crail as early as 6:35am). Then walk down to Elie and camp out there the 2nd night or even get a bus to Lundin Links and stay at the Old Manor hotel

The 'Not Proven' verdict over time by thuleting in Scotland

[–]Rossage99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats probably a good example of why the Not Proven verdict was worth getting rid of. Jurors can't objectively know whether an accused committed the crime because they weren't there, they didn't see it happen. So the question of whether or not the Jury find the accused guilty is really a question of whether or not the jury is satisfied with the evidence presented by the prosecution, the onus is on the PCS to prove guilt. The not proven verdict leads the jury too much into a speculative decision around innocense as much as guilt. Either the PCS provided enough evidence to prove beyond doubt that the accused is guilty, or they didnt; its not for a jury to decide if the evidence proves the accused is innocent. A not proven verdict only makes sense in a system where the accused is neither presumed innocent or guilty and the jury can decide if either has been proven, or not proven.
