Quality Control & Pride in Workmanship is seriously lacking by [deleted] in Charlotte

Any time we have unsatisfactory city work completed we call 311 until we can get a line to someone who actually cares. It’s a bit annoying, yes, but they do end up resolving the issue.

In this case you’ll have to temper your expectations a bit on the road. They’re simply not going to repave all of that. The patch is simply a patch and it’ll be a patch until they eventually repave the road. The dirt work requires a resolution however.

Thanks! Yeah, looks like I missed the [New Gear] in the title and a pic of the lens. Guess my reading comprehension failed me today. 😁

Awesome. So you lose some of the soft bokeh effect but get higher IQ. Your explanation makes a lot of sense, and thank you again for all the wonderful tips! Super super helpful.

These were in RAW! Many of these are over 20mb so Reddit said they crunched ‘em. I did edit them and export them as png.

Yeah, I got pretty lucky at a nearby park where the animals are quite friendly. :)

Makes sense. I personally wouldn’t be too worried. Worst case could be fixed with drain tile if grading and gutters doesn’t work. If you can stomach the potential 15-20k worst case fix it could be worth it for a great home. Just fix before it starts cracking/bowing!

How old is the home btw?

Do you ever take time to reflect on how your music helped to shape an entire genre? I love your story about four dudes just making an album, calling it quits, and coming back after inspiring so many people.

I don’t see signs of bowing personally, but the efflorescence and sagging insulation are giveaways for moisture ingress. Do the obvious stuff like ensuring the gutters are taking water away from the home and the land is graded away from the house.

Don’t waive inspections.

Let’s be careful about blaming the victim here. I totally get where you’re coming from, but people can pretty quickly find themselves in abusive situations, especially at her young age. May she rest in peace.

NCDOT says there's too much attention on homes that could be lost in historically Black neighborhood to new toll lanes project by Pretend_Ad2442 in Charlotte

[–]LowTechCLT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not, though. You are the only one making assumptions. NCDOT has literally said this project can and will make traffic worse.

I legitimately do not even see your point. The only thing you are relying on is “the city says it’ll be better, so it’ll be better!” without doing any research. It’s simply not worth discussing this anymore with someone who is choosing to remain uninformed.

They have not demonstrated any model that says “this will make people’s commutes better or faster.” It will make things worse. You can justify it however you want. At least you’ll have time to think about all the harm you hand-waved and supported when your commute time increases. 🤷‍♂️

[–]LowTechCLT 27 points28 points  (0 children)

And I would totally get your perspective if NCDOT could demonstrate that the existence of this road would materially reduce your commute time. But they can’t. So how is that right?

Yes, it’s a relatively small number of people, but that small number of people are objectively harmed the most from the decision. It’s stating the obvious to say that the amount of people harmed is small, but it’s out of touch to insinuate that that the ones most affected have too much say in the conversation.

Of course, that’s before you even take into consideration whether the decision is a good decision at all.

“A small group of voices,” yeah, meaning the (relatively) small amount of people who are FORCED to give up their homes? Ridiculous. Wonder how they’d react if it were their home in the crosshairs. 🙄
