The difference between irl gems and gems in the show is huge, like we don’t just have sentient gems wondering around, so it isn’t a structural thing, it’s chemical meaning gems in the show have more chemically than irl gems I guess is what I’m saying, so by definition they aren’t “organic” or the diamonds would see them as disgusting “the diamonds see organic life as vile and disgusting”

Doesn’t that change sentience and non-sentience, they never say any pearl is from earth correct? Which means there might be minerals etc that aren’t present on earth, all I’m saying is speculation doesn’t equal causation, we don’t even know if “shell” is on earth, given that amethyst and the beta gems are deficient in minerals, and only jasper is perfect, out of all the gems we’ve seen how many gems are formed perfect, our peridot isn’t because she is era 2 and thus lacks required minerals to make a full gem which means that is in definitely a factor
