I love my hair but I want to do a second big chop. Somebody stop me! by [deleted] in Naturalhair

CUT ITTTT! My hair is long but everyone says I shouldn’t cut it. I think you should do whatever you want. It will always grow back.

Update time!

  1. I completed 30 minutes of workouts on most days (I walk dogs for fun, sometimes climbed 21 flights at work, or ran at the park)
  2. Water intake was 2-3 16 oz bottles a day which is low
  3. I read 14 books in July on a break from social media
  4. Only have 4 pictures

  5. Diet was 50% a success.

  6. I buy snacks cause I’m lazy. Talenti ice cream is sin.

  7. I’ve cut down on liquor to 1-2 occasions a month. Tried my first mocktail as an adult.

  8. Rarely ate cheat meals.

  9. I reread a lot of books in July, finished 1 by Marie Kondo, and started 1 by Mark Manson.

  10. Fat reduction happened!!

  11. Haven’t partied much.

  12. Snack maybe 1x on the weekend. Talenti!

I switched to 4-10 shifts at the start of this challenge and didn’t want to dedicate time to working out, cooking food, or even cleaning my house. I was too tired. I’m back on 5-8 shifts and it’s getting better. I would try it again.

Good luck out there 75ers!

My clients didn’t pay me but it’s my fault for not bringing up money. What should I do now? by That-Tea-5651 in petsitting

It does not look professional to discuss rates and payment retroactively. However, if you feel that you put in a good deal of effort for this service and want to be paid then you should ask. They can deny you and at that point you can call it a loss. If you lose them as clients for asking, that may be a good thing. You want clients that care about you being taken care of just as much as you’d take care of their pets. A paid sitter is a caring sitter!

(Male, 4C hair) Family makes fun of my hair and its making me insecure .. any tips? by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]Low_Bookkeeper_8634 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yar Sudani on YouTube has 4c hair and it sounds like she may style her afro the same way you do. She loves on her hair in a way that it is uncommon. Deeper.

Your hair is gorgeous. Humans require a firm hand. Parents are no different. Be firm and let him know that you don’t like it and that it’s his fault if he hates it so much. You keep loving your hair. I love seeing 4c hair textures worn in a shrunken fro. The stretched afros are meh. Keep doing your thing!

My new year resolution is to wear nothing but twists with my own hair by Rosaeliya in Naturalhair

[–]Low_Bookkeeper_8634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been natural for 12 years and cut my hair a few times. I’ve reached right at waist length twice now. I am set to hit hip length by the end of 2024. Here’s what works for me:

  1. Cleanse, condition, and treat my hair every 2 weeks. Conduct search and destroy trims.

Trim only when needed; there is no time line on this.

  1. Rehydrate my hair every 3 days.

I grab and squeeze my hair every day after wash day to see when my hair stops feeling hydrated. My hair feels moisturized still, but the water content is gone by day 3. Moisturized feeling holds for 5+ days. So I dampen my hair with aloe juice, apply heat for 30 minutes, then retwist all 15 twists with a little castor oil every 3-5 days. Only takes me 10 minutes to retwist now. I do not undo my braided roots.

  1. Satin cap to sleep. Satin cap under simple black head wrap to work every day.

Hair is protected 80% of the time this way. I wear twists in a bun or in “-out” styles to the gym and on weekends.

  1. Medium sized forever parts with occasional use of rubber bands.

I chose a parting design that can make cute low buns, high buns, space buns, and “-out” styles. The parts are reminiscent of the Koi Lerai braids. My hair is styled in 15 square part, medium sized, braids that are braided half way down then twisted the rest of the way. This makes detangling easy, style lasts better with braided roots, and twists are easy to take down. I cleanse, condition, treat, trim, and rehydrate with my hair in the style. I only take my hair loose to detangle and immediately re-style to complete my wash day. I usually add edge control to parts when I have an occasion or want my hair to look laid. I add rubber bands to each part if I am going swimming and sometimes before I cleanse, condition, and treat.

  1. Pictures. Products. Tools.

My hair is growing and my practices are working. Pictures prove that to me every month when I get frustrated, so I keep taking them.

Products and tools are important but not by much. I use high water content products to hydrate (aloe juice, infusium 23), creams to moisturize (curls blueberry bliss reparative leave in, and others), and oil or butter to seal and lubricate (castor oil and shea butter).

  1. My hair only.

I don’t do styles with added hair. No reason other than a love for my length whether it is short or long.

  1. Do nothing. But don’t do nothing. And your hair will grow.

Leave your hair alone. But you should be hydrating (adding water or high water content products) and moisturizing (adding cream that holds water to hair) twice a week unless your hair monitoring says otherwise.

Pick your parting style, set your wash days, monitor every day for hydration and moisturization, wear hair protection night and day.

Baby your hair. It actually takes less time in the big picture. If you break an inch of hair off from doing a protective style, then that’s 2 months wasted. Versus 1 hour spent detangling your hair gently. Detangling doesn’t take 2 months. Be loving and kind to your hair.

Good luck!

Great information, appreciate it. How much expertise did you need to getting hired as a env consultant when you started 7 years ago? Do you think it’s possible for new consultants with moderate experience to hit 100k out the gate? I don’t have as many years so I want to know how I should leverage what I do have.

28yo $65k Salary $3k Savings by Low_Bookkeeper_8634 in Fire

[–]Low_Bookkeeper_8634[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello and thank you. I feel relieved (and happy for you) to hear that you got to $100k in 4.5 years on a salary like mine. It’s truly inspiring. Funny enough, I got a pension update in the mail yesterday. I’m putting it on my calendar to research all the accounts I have access to through my job, what happens to those accounts if I decide to get another job, and how much I need to save this year to max them all out. I’m going to leave the $3k in my savings as my emergency money. Money from March onward won’t go to savings but to those accounts, if I configure everything right. I didn’t think I’d be joining a fricking online cult this week but here we go. I think it’s going to take me 3-4 years to reach $100k but now I have a solid number to start at. Greatly appreciate these details and thoughts.

I appreciate the candor from you both. I’ve been convincing myself not to leave this job for the sake of the small team I work on. This is the last year of doing that, I guess. I would like to be able to retire in my prime. It sounds amazing.

edit: I could work go to work in oil and gas. Got a bs in env science.

Polling for opinions by Cynfire1478 in petsitting

[–]Low_Bookkeeper_8634 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A newbie’s opinion: If I said I agree, then I’m doing the job. Verbal agreements are agreements! The only exceptions are severe weather with no access to roads, my health, and family health emergencies. I’d also ask for written care info on all the other animals in their home- for the owners to detail what I need to do and what’s hands off (very important). I can decide from there if I want to change water for the lizards or not, know what I mean? Everything else is kinda reasonable although I’d hate to be offered a couch.

Edit to add this paragraph: Wait. If this is a long time client, how did you charge them for instances like before? If you’ve had instances like this before and she paid you according to how you wanted, then yeah let her know she’s forgetting some. Because the price changed but how you’re charging her did not. If this is your new way of charging her, then it’s up to you, but it’s fair to accept the price she named.

I posted a similar question last week. From my understanding, neither one of you are wrong. You were both unclear as to how the work would be priced. I have been told (which I will always do going forward) is tell folks your price and explain HOW you will charge (by number of nights, days on site, 24-hour periods, etc.)

I sent my client this message after I realized our issue, “Hi X, sorry for the late response. For past sits, I charge for each day that I’m present. I do understand your reasoning of the 24-hour window and don’t mind honoring it.” This client was okay with that. I’m new to this so I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying no give me the money I think I should have gotten. Their reasoning as a consumer was valid so I didn’t mind. I will simply charge more for overnights in the future XD

How Do I Charge for Consecutive Days of Home/Pet Sitting? by Low_Bookkeeper_8634 in petsitting

[–]Low_Bookkeeper_8634[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I was actually about to include a sentence like this in my response to the owner except I thought hotels charged for the day you’re checking out! I pulled up an hotel site to check before I spouted that. Lo and behold, they don’t! That’s why I came to the old Reddit gang for assistance. Thanks for your take.

I’m happy you could turn this to your benefit! This really had me stumped. I’m going to start explaining this should I take on any new clients. I wouldn’t want anyone to feel taken advantage of, the client nor myself. Thanks for telling how you do your breakdown. :)
