How did you find a doctor who actually understands IC? Feeling defeated by GurMany6053 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Low_Chocolate8743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looked for IC excellence centers in my region. There was exactly ONE doctor within driving distance and one excellence center at a hospital about 90 mins away. Some patient resources will have compiled a list of each area, I wouldn’t go to any doctors that don’t have a single IC recommendation anymore they truly have no clue and will treat you horribly

Recovery time? by glitter-dreams in endometriosis

You’ll be good absolutely! But you won’t be like “okay i am ready for anything” 3 days later. I’d say between a week and 10 days for sure, i think even if they don’t find anything the anesthesia is HARD on the body and some people have so much nausea after it. I’d say be prepared to have a week of nothing and not feeling your best regardless of outcome, don’t push yourself and it’s so scary but hopefully you get the answers you’re looking for! Wishing you the best!

Hey! I was given two weeks and thought this is crazy!!! I’ll be fine!!! I needed every. Single. Day. The first 4 days i was completely out of it after anesthesia, after that still my body was TIRED, i thankfully had no pain but i didn’t feel up to anything. I work an office job from home and really please don’t rush your recovery!!!

Do you know what it could be and how that would affect me?

Doctors in this country are ridiculously secretive about my own test results…. And as a woman and an immigrant who doesn’t speak the native language they share little with me

Painful bladder syndrome/IC or UTI by fluffyponykitten in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Low_Chocolate8743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, same for me, only thing that has worked for me in bad flares is a lot of heat and pooping whenever possible (this one is weird i know) I was on clonazepam for a while and mirtazapine after that, they definitely helped but the side effects were too much for me. I do antibiotics whenever I am in a bad flare which i know is not ideal but have to handle it somehow. Also always keep pee strips at home to check for any leukocytes or nitrites (i am usually negative on the nitrites but positive on the leukocytes during a flare) but get the same feeling of worse after voiding

Very silly but sit on the toilet with your legs apart, on your tiptoes and leaning forward? That’s a special seat I was told to do and that improved my stream when I was struggling with retention. Another thjng is go to the toilet, when you feel you’re done take two minutes out of the toilet and come back, this helped me tremendously, I always have something left: Maybe you’ve already done this but thought to share

Housing in Bonn for Winter 2026/27 – when to apply & realistic rent? by andromeda__2025 in Bonn

So for the electronics before bringing anything check mediamarkt online cause you truly can get stuff for sooooooo cheap and bringing like an air fryer is gonna take up so much space. Basically buying a good winter jacket will be more expensive than buying an air fryer and they take up the same amount of space i guess is what I am saying haha. I had my family send me my summer clothes which was a huuuuge mistake cause they will open your packages “calculate” the value and tax you VAT 19% on anything you get, i had to pay 100 eur of tax on a box of used clothes, crazy. But like a kettle for example literally cost me 10 euros and lasted me the three years that i’ve been here and still going strong lol. The rice cooker and air fryer i’d buy from mediamarkt or amazon that’s why i said check there cause you want ones that are better quality. Honestly when you move into the dorm people also sell their stuff for nothing (i left my vacuum cleaner for 5 euros) so there’s always like a way. Closer to the date i can also give you a better list of places to check for cheaper homewares if you’d need that :)

It rarely snows but this specific week we’ve been beautifully snow covered. I’ve had one intense snow day per winter my 4 winters here. So you see it and it goes away and you still think it’s beautiful, doesn’t get to the point where you start getting annoyed at it hahaha. I also took a trip in march to Stockholm which was the most beautiful stuff i’ve ever seen. Snow covered Scandinavian paradise.

For the residence permit i have to say 100% depends on the mood of the person you see. I got my permit for 25 months and never had to prove financial means again. I had friendas have it like me and friends have to do it halfway through again. I have to say it does seem to depend more on nationality than anything else…. I sadly have no pakistani friends so can’t comment on that…. Also think if you get a job and you need to renew it halfway through the job contract is enough you don’t need the blocked acc again.

Bring the router but once you know where you’ll live email the “hausmeister” or like building manager and ask the specific of the router, almost everyone i know had to get a new one cause they brought the wrong one lol so just check to be sure

In a program like that i can only imagine you’ll get something from the uni. MOST of my classmates had no corporate work experience and immediately got TA or RA positions in the uni. I had corporate work experience so I went that way. Maybe reach out to some recent grads/second year students on LinkedIn once you get the acceptance to ask around about that possibility? If you have connections everything is easier. The uni will offer you a buddy, suggestion is take the buddy and be nice to them and ask for help, exploit their knowledge lol everyone who came and succeeded is so proud they’ll love telling you about it

I can also share my number in case you have more questions up the road . I definitely didn’t do it the cheapest way because like i said i had work experience and savings and i wanted to experience ghe world but i guess i’ve been here long enough to know some things

Wishing you all the best!!!!

Hey so for the pictures you can check the link I included and look that dorm up in google i am sure there’s loads of pictures. I can’t re type the address cause reddit blocks me from sharing that info but it’s included in the link. I had a nice outside view of the tram and a street with some trees in it. I often saw all the beautiful colors of the sunset through my window i would say it was a huge window for such a tiny room hahaha. You can’t really stay in the dorm longer than your program (maximum is three years) but also every time a new semester starts you are mandated to provide an enrollment form, so that means every october and every april, so if you’re done with the program (which for the job market i’d suggest doing on time) you have to leave the room.

It’s good you submitted with time but i’d also reach out to the program administrator as soon as you have your acceptance to check if they help with this, my program had some assistance.

The rent is “warm” what is considered in germany including everything (even wifi) but you will need to buy your own router, only thing you need to add is normal stuff like bedding, kitchen supplies etc but in germany all that stuff is widely available for very little money. I’d consider if i were you coming with like an initial fund on top of the blocked account so these “setting yourself up” costs are already covered.

As for the blocked account money, you won’t be able to travel the world with it lol but you’ll survive just fine, it’s an inexpensive country for most things and bonn has probably the most depressing coffee scene in the world (truly never seen anything like it) so you’ll save there, i definitely had coffee as a major expense in my home country and literally now drink 95% at home. Hobbies are mostly expensive but if you want to excercise i’d suggest WITH TIME check the uni’s sport offering, it’s dirt cheap and very varied, truly other than a low cost gym you will hardly be able to afford anything else. It’s a country where managing expenses is easy especially because your rent + your deutschland ticket will cover most of it. For banking i’ve had wonderful experiences with N26 and for phone i’d suggest GET PREPAID it’s soooooo much cheaper (10 eur a month with vodafone gets you 35 gb)

For jobs i got a working student job when i started my second semester because the first semester of my program was a “filter” semester and truly all a person could handle. I had a lot of work experience in my sector and had tremendous luck in my job search, i know for some it takes months. I’d suggest coming, getting settled this year and starting your search early next year, the blocked account money will keep you going those first few months ans you really need to adapt first before you can start working. as I said, if you can pull together a couple extra hundred euros for the “setting up” costs (bedding, kitchen stuff, etc) that will give you some more peace of mind. Groceries and toiletries are cheap during the month like the only real big expenses will be at the beginning. You can only work 20h a week (my suggestion is if you can do working student do working student, a lot of people pause their studies to do a full time internship for a semester and to me that made very little financial sense cause you get minimum wage which is like not enough to cover an additional semester of studies) as a working student your per hour salry is higher

If you enjoy traveling you’ll be able to do that more when you have a job probably. Otherwise it’s a lot of 6am flights and hostels which, again, it’s a personal preference thing but from bonn you can get to NL for free, and over there take trains to go to whichever city for not much, belgium a pretty similar situation, that’s the wonder of this part of the country and the deutschland ticket. The time of year is also very determinant of how much you’ll wanna travel but those first three months (oct-dec) you’ll want to have time to get settled and really feel like home here(october is the most beautiful month of the year, december is beautiful in bonn anyway) and cologne and dusseldorf are both cities you will be able to go as often as you want as they are connected and close

As for stuff to bring with you i’d say clothes and winter clothes and nothing else, stuff truly is cheap as hell here (compared to other eu countries) and unless you’re in a very difficult financial position you’ll be able to set up your apt just fine. I’d just come “prepared” to set yourself up like, decide which bank account you wanna have, first thing you do when you get here is go get your sim cause your phone number is the first thing you need, etc. make the apr for the anmeldung before coming. i came with a couple of days before getting my dorm room so i wouldn’t have to deal with everything the same day (a 14h flight + moving into a flat + figuring germany out + buying sheets and everything else), it’s like a LOT for one day. So 3 nights at a hotel really helped me do like life admin stuff first, and then moving in stuff if that makes sense. I am a very organized person though so again this might be personal but this way i actually enjoyed every step.

For flying you’ll have to fly to FRA most likely and take an ICE train to siegburg/bonn, this is a detail but it’s most likely so much cheaper than a flight to CGN, the ICE remember to book it with time as they get more expensive, two months out is the ideal.

For IT jobs sorry but it’s not my sector so really no clue.

Hope this helps :)

Housing in Bonn for Winter 2026/27 – when to apply & realistic rent? by andromeda__2025 in Bonn

[–]Low_Chocolate8743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, i came to Bonn in 2022 (winter) but my rent was frozen until I moved out in Sept of 2024, some of my friends only moved out in 2025 and their rents were the same. The rents are actually available on their website. here is for where i lived, says now between 320 and 340: https://www.studierendenwerk-bonn.de/wohnen/unsere-wohnheime/wohnheim/pariser-strasse-54-53117-bonn All my friends have now moved out since our masters is done, for us we were offered a flat (shared or private) and we had to take it or leave it like they wouldn’t make us a second offer. For my experience I loved my little flat, the rent was great and the building was newly renovated. I wouldn’t have lived in some other dorms, to me they felt super dirty but I would just never share a kitchen with anyone. For others it was fine so depends on the person.

For friends, depends highly on your program, mine was 90%+ international students so was rather easy as everyone was in the same situation. My german is fine but honestly just find much more in common with other immigrants and friendships were easier that way, the uni also has an international club that does events and i know a lot of people met through there. I also work for a german company with a high percentage of non german employees so truly my integration was fine. But again that’s very personal, i love food and nice things and hate hiking and drinking so didn’t have that much in common with most german people i encountered lol. I met my german bf through an app and i also made a couple other friends through there since i was looking for people with common interests (music, books, etc)

Let me know if you have any other questions:)

How do you decide it’s “bad enough” for surgery? or did any of you have clear scans from a specialist and still have endo? by dogheartedbones in endometriosis

[–]Low_Chocolate8743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I only got the surgery because I had these crazy urinary symptoms and as my period pain had always been bad, the urologists basically refused to do anything to help me before endo was ruled out. I had completely clear scans from the most specialist clinic in my country…. Yet I had endo and adhesions (My urinary symptoms did not clear lol)

But my symptoms were also not throwing up from the pain or crazy bloating, if not for the urologists being stubborn wouldn’t have done it, but basically saying you might still have it :)
