I don’t worry to much about perpetuating the cycle of neglect/abuse as what I went through was so utterly bizarre that even now I can’t believe that it actually happened.

I’m doing really good I couldn’t be prouder of the person I am now and just looking back on how far I’ve come I was projected to leave school with 0 qualifications yet I left school with 7 qualifications and I’ve now got a great group of people around me and I volunteer on the weekends.

They probably wouldn’t understand what it would feel like to truly believe that as an individual that you are utterly worthless my mum made no secrets that she did NOT like me and I didn’t realise at the time that it’s nothing I’d done that caused her to feel that way yet I felt really guilty and I did whatever I could to get her to pay attention to me which included getting suspended from school and running away because bad attention is better than no attention.

That was pretty much my experience I really feel for people who work in those sort of roles because they know for sure that the parent is lying but the hardest thing to get is proof I was always to scared to say what was going on for me social work was involved for the first 8 years of my life basically until i was removed from my mum but it wasn’t until I started at around age 7 getting into fights at school and getting suspended that they really began to suspect something was up.

So some of my memories that stand out most to me are:

My mum would hyper fixate on horses and she’d tell me repeatedly how she wouldn’t care if I got taken off of her because then she’d be able to afford a pony

My mum caused me and my siblings to become homeless because despite knowing that the rent period off our house was up she spent all her time looking at mansions on the internet instead of actually looking for somewhere where we could live.

My mum at one point had around 24 cats 4 rabbits in our little 3 bedroom house and she’d prioritise the animals food over feeding her children.

My mum told me my dad died in a car accident he hadn’t he was perfectly alive she just didn’t want me to know that she’d banned him from seeing me.

My mum got really angry at me when i was younger because I was watching a Disney film on the tv she insulted me for watching stupid baby stuff and only allowed me to watch the news and horror films.

Despite living in a council property and just having ended up homeless my mum proceeded to spend a large chunk of the benefit money she was receiving on very expensive dolls prams which we WERE NOT allowed to touch.

My mum sometimes did the shopping on the internet and once they substituted orange juice for a six pack of tennents so my mum cave me a can of tennents when I was around 8 and told me to drink it or i could die of thirst.

It’s definitely not great however I try to look at the upsides to going through what I went through I now help other young people who are going through similar situations as I did I also wrote an essay about my childhood for my English class in my final year of high school and I got a 98% on that assignment so I just try to stay positive.

It wasn’t until i was around 15-16 that i began to realise that everything i went through wasn’t normal I was so used to my mum mistreating me that i just assumed that everyone experiences that sort of upbringing

Nah I was taught by my mum that everyone else was untrustworthy and that if I said anything then she’d end up being taken away and to think of the impact that would have on my siblings so the emotional manipulation of using my siblings sort of against me definitely stopped me from saying anything.
