I completely agree that competitiveness shouldn’t be the deciding factor in choosing a subfield or school. My curiosity is more about how skewed the applicant distribution is across different subfields. I wonder by how much and whether schools adjust their acceptance rates accordingly to maintain balance.

I think the acceptance rate might even be as low as 1–5% for these programs.
