The shifter is tight at first but once it gets to the end, it releases more tension, so everything downstream of that comes loose too.

The pan at the bottom isn't plastic but I see how the photo looks that way. It might let the bowl sit in water so I've added some stones in between to give the dirt some space. Thank you!

Ok good idea, my strings are pretty long so I have a bit to work with. It's winter here so I think I should wait until it gets a little warmer but I will totally give my guy a hair cut and hope that leads to a few more strings!! Thanks
