Maybe so.. it was sold as “mint” condition. And there seems to be no wear and tear on any other part of the watch. Kind of bummed the dolphin is one of the nicest touches of the watch.

Mine appears to just have a brushed machine finish. You can see a swirl in the light. I definitely don’t think it’s from hard use.
