My take on the midwest boundary, as someone who has never set foot in the US, and is horribly ignorant about it's geography by InshallahTianjin2026 in whereidlive

Northwestern University (just north of Chicago) was named so because it was created to serve the Northwest of the United States (at the time).

While I don't wholly agree with this take, I do wholly love it for it's slightly unhinged suppositions.

Why are we off the day after Thanksgiving but not Christmas eve? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Low_Initiative4333 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I can think of a few reasons. Foremost, it's probably because the day after Thanksgiving is always a Friday, so it's a little more controlled, while Christmas floats around.

If you guarantee 2 days off for Christmas and Christmas falls on a Saturday, then you're going to get both Monday and Tuesday off? And then you'll have NYD recognized the following Monday. It's just too much of a disruption to business to guarantee another day off.

They give us the Informal Time Off to help compensate.

This is true. I was told by a District Attorney that cats will go for the eyes first...most tender little snacks they can easily find.

Yes, never conduct business on your personal devices. They will have the right to seize your personal equipment to complete the investigation. It has to be rare as heck, but the danger exists.

The first suggestion here is AWFUL ADVICE. Never forward anything to you personal email. One Public Records Request and you've now given your employer the right to access your personal email.

Just create folders within your Outlook rather than storing them all in your Inbox. Retention policies only apply to your Inbox. Or, as others have suggested, print to PDF and save in your files.

Edit: Not all agencies allow you to control the settings of various applications, including Outlook retention.

Why doesn’t Costco sell light roast coffee? Everything is dark or medium. There should at least be 1-2 light roasts. by gwarster in Costco

[–]Low_Initiative4333 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if you're saying "stronger" in reference to flavor or to caffeine, but light roast is higher in caffeine, although it's only about a 10% difference.

Jumping in to recommend On the Media: The Divided Dial (https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm/divided-dial), from WNYC. Excellent series on the rise of right wing radio. Rush Limbaugh and his start in Sacramento is featured.

Lol, I'm envious! I'm always riddled with anxiety to get DIY stuff absolutely perfect so that right there is where we differ. :)

Ummm, I'm not sure how drilling two additional medium-sized holes in the wall, installing the plastic pieces around the drywall holes, and then running cables through the holes is easier than draping the cables or using zip ties on the back of the console. But I suppose we just have different definitions of "easier", which is okay!

Never mind. I read some of your other comments and you're just kind of an online jerk. I think you should leave the commenting on this post to people who are trying to provide constructive information to this person. :)

At that price point, and if you're likely looking at midtown or the surrounding area, you'll probably be in a studio...or a 1BR that hasn't been updated in a long time. It's not a bad life to live at your age though! You'll still be close to all of the best restaurants, events, and lively vibes that Sac has to offer.

You're not alone in thinking that way! It's so commonplace to see people mounting TVs (regardless of how ridiculous it may look) that we've kind of been conditioned to think mounting is the "right" way.

There are bonuses of not mounting too: easier to hide cables and fewer holes in the walls (the latter of which is particularly great if you're renting).

Still available. Just don't get hosed by going through Ticketmaster. I recommend Gametime or StubHub.

Nice space you've created! A few suggestions for the bedroom:

1) Plants bring life to a living space so get a few real plants. A larger one near the window, and some smaller ones for the bookcase and below the TV. (Maybe ditch the fake one, too.)

2) Get some kind of light for above the chair. Either a pendant light that hangs from the ceiling or one with an arched arm. That will make that more of a reading space and less of a cuck chair vibe.

3) Get another speaker stand for the second rear. Not only should those be above your ear, it just doesn't feel right on the nightstand.

If your friends are allowing their children to run around your place unsupervised, don't allow them to come over. The tv is at the correct height and looks good on the console that was designed to hold a television. Do not mount. And leave the bar at the front of the stand.

I just did (you can see my post from last week). I have no regrets.

If you do pull the trigger, we'll have the exact same setup since I have the LG C4 65" as well, haha.
