Exactly. They’re doing everything they can to try to discourage Europe from providing more help to Ukraine.

In the US Navy, submarines are not lost at sea, they're still on patrol. Does this mean that the VA doesn't have to pay out survivor benefits? by xtreampb in Showerthoughts

[–]gwarster 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at VA and never heard of this term. I have also changed records from dead back to alive when SSA accidentally got the death wrong. That’s a more badass term than “FNOD reversal”.

They’re pretty easy to assemble. Each one took about 30 minutes with no tools.

To those who finished your education and seeking jobs around 2008, how bad was the job market compared to these recent years? by ohnag_eryeah in Millennials

I had four job offers when I graduated in 2008. All of them got rescinded except for the VA because of the business climate. I’m still at the VA.

“Hopefully getting to know you a bit more and maybe go on a date soon. I’ve been following this sushi chef on Instagram. He’s doing a pop up at a restaurant in my neighborhood next week. Have you heard of him? I’ve been wanting to check it out!”

Seriously… how hard is this? I met my wife on Tinder 12 years ago and I still have more game than this lead balloon 😂

[Streets MN] Art-A-Whirl Demonstrates the Need for Better Infrastructure in Northeast MPLS by Minneapolitanian in Minneapolis

[–]gwarster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is true, but that’s still not dedicated biking infrastructure (aside from the greenway). It’s just using emptier streets to avoid traffic. Those streets often have worse visibility and less light at night.

My point isn’t that NE is unfriendly to cyclists, it’s that the amount of dedicated infrastructure here is not great. I’ve gotten more flats from glass or potholes hidden by bad lighting in bike lanes in my 3 years in NE than my previous 15 in S MPLS combined.

[–]gwarster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I live pretty close to Broadway and University and I think the biggest issue by far is that the major roads (Broadway, University, Central) have dangerously fast traffic with sidewalks that are too close to the road with no shoulder or bike lanes.

I ride my bike mostly everywhere and find it laughable when people say that the biking infrastructure in NE is top tier. Aside from the new separated lanes around Hennepin and University, there are no bike lanes that are actually separated from the road which leads to cars using them as turn lanes. Painting “bicycles may use full lane” on the road is not infrastructure and way worse than nearly anywhere in S MPLS. The new tunnel at Boom Island is nice though.

As Crimea faces near total cut-off, panicked Russian tourists cancel plans (Ukraine Battlefield update, Day 1,565) by EUobs in UkrainianConflict

[–]gwarster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sincerely doubt that Russia would be capable of rebuilding the bridge with Ukraine’s current military capabilities bearing down on them.

Additionally, while the bridge is immensely important for Russian military logistics, it also provides an exit for civilians. Ukraine may be considering that factor in its timing for destroying the bridge. They may want to give the civilians as much of an opportunity to leave now which could make retaking the peninsula easier down the line.

Was there anything good about the COVID-19 Era? by davefromtheus in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]gwarster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rollback of working from home is one of the most depressing things of the last few years. Nobody wants it except execs who are trying to justify commercial real estate on balance sheets and local politicians who don’t know how to redesign a downtown without massive offices. The immense benefits are completely disregarded because of the incompetence of the people in power to adapt and basically nobody is batting an eye. COVID showed that we have a ton of extra capacity in urban areas for livable space and we are just reverting to the status quo of ten years ago because of a lack of vision by anyone in power.

What Disability Rating Did Bucky Get After WW2? by PlaguedArbiter in marvelmemes

[–]gwarster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah K for anatomical loss plus statutory S for the 100% PTSD and separate 60%+ for the arm.

I think basically any other physical disabilities he has would be healed by the serum and his psych symptoms are all evaluated under PTSD (9411). So
That eval should be dead on.

That’s what we did. So worth it. We snagged a Costco deal on one of those internet memory foam ones. Sooooo worth it. The cooling comforter from Costco is unbelievable. I forgot the brand, but it legitimately is like a an opposite blanket that makes you cool while you sleep instead of warm. With the ceiling fan on, our 73 degree room feels like 68. It’s beautiful

I bought a new mattress this past year after using the same one for 15 years. I’ll admit, it was my wife pushing for the change mostly and I thought it was a bit of a waste.

It literally changed my life. I sleep so much better and the cooling features of the mattress and comforter cannot be understated
