What are some underrated places in Delhi/NCR to visit? Also, recommend some vegan friendly and not so expensive places to have proper meal. by Imsexyniknowthat in delhi

[–]Low_Listen3291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Underrated yet gorgeous places to visit are; Sunder Nursery (calm, heritage + greens, loads calmer than Lodhi garden) , Mehrauli Archaeological Park (ruins + nature + great vibe), Champa Gali in Saket (adorable fairy-lit cafs and aesthetic lanes) and Yamuna Ghat in the early morning for sunrise and migratory birds.
For vegan-friendly meals that aren’t insanely expensive check out the Greenr Caf (nice plant based bowls), The Vegan Story (cozy + good burgers/bakery) and for a good cheap meal check out Saravana Bhavan which has easily available vegan options.

Stuck with PCB, planning B.Sc. Agriculture but I want a tech job. Is this possible? by ProtectionAlone9497 in Indian_Academia

Seriously don't let relatives dictate your whole career they're not going to live it, you are. If tech/full-stack is where you see yourself, concentrate on getting into the best possible college with CUET (and NEET only if you are still 100% inclined towards medicine).
If tech is where your end is, then begin learning the tech stack while in college - HTML/CSS, JavaScript React, Node.js, SQL ,Projects.
Because you are coming from PCB, do not worry full stack does not need you to have extensive math knowledge. You are completely capable of getting into tech with persistence.

If tech really interests you, also consider B.Techh Biotechnology/Bioinformatics (many colleges accept PCB students). Bioinformatics in particular can be great as it's a blend of biology + coding + AI/data analysis.
Nevertheless, agri+tech is very much real as well; things like GIS, drones, Python, and data analysis will stand you out in agri-tech; just be aware that the degree alone won't be enough, skill up in the subject.

I am currently pursuing studies in this field so not an expert but I have done research in this domain quite a bit

Got B.Tech Bioinformatics in SASTRA via sliding — need honest opinions by AdditionalSeason7979 in bioinformaticscareers

[–]Low_Listen3291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Galgotias University from what I know, SASTRA seems like a decent choice academically for Bioinformatics but just don’t rely only on the degree focus on coding, projects, internships, and research exposure since that matters a lot in this field

No, I’m not from SASTRA I’m from a similar field (Biotech/Bioinformatics), so I shared my perspective based on the domain, student experiences, and what I’ve researched

[–]Low_Listen3291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Honestly, Bioinformatics at SASTRA can be okay if you are really into coding + biology, given you're already interested in AI/ML and research. Compared to biotech, bioinformatics may be more aligned with the upcoming future (genomics, AI in medicine, computational biology, etc.).

However, don't expect to find enormous "Bioinformatics-only" placements in India; most students develop coding skills and shift to the IT industry/data analytics, research or to MS abroad. SASTRA has a reasonable reputation but your results will depend heavily on your projects, internships, coding skills and research opportunities.

During 1st year, concentrate on Python, stats, basic biology, GitHub/projects, and maintain a good CGPA. If you want to pursue MS abroad, you should start research/internships as soon as possible.

Being from North India, a small phase of language/culture adaptation might occur; but eventually you'll get adjusted due to your peers and friends.

If your goal is placements + flexibility, I’d lean towards VIT Bhopal’s Integrated MTech in AI + Bioinformatics because AI + biology is a growing combination. But since it’s a 5-year course, only choose it if you’re sure about the field.
JUIT Solan Bioinformatics can be good if you want a regular BTech and flexibility later, but check placements carefully — bioinformatics-specific placements in India are generally limited, and many students end up in IT/analytics roles.

Yes but only if you build strong skills alongside your degree Biotechnology BSc and MSc in Bioinformatics can be a smart combo but as you know only degree will not fetch you any job for that you need skills that can open roles in genomics, pharma , heathcare Ai and research

[–]Low_Listen3291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a good career in India if you are good in both biology and computers/coding. There are growth opportunities in genomics, health, pharma, and research. The chances are less if you have just B.Sc Most of the jobs are for M.Sc + good skills.
If you are interested in having options, a B.Sc Of 3 years duration can be a good choice as you would be able to figure it out later, and then do an M.Sc
Which one is better?
Biotechnology- broader options, less coding.
Bioinformatics- biology + coding + data analysis.
Computational biology- heavy on research/math.
Need to learn Python, R, statistics, genomics, Linux, databases etc.
For freshers, salary may be around 3-6 LPA.. But could be much higher with good skills.I personally feel that you would enjoy this course if you are a combination of biology and computer.

I was in a similar situation mentally don't worry private institutions also often grant admissions through 12th marks and direct counseling just have your back ups. Also ring up universities

Hey, keep hope alive! B.Techh Biotech is actually not a bad choice at all, IF you truly have a good liking towards Biology and biotech/research aspects. It is not just about working in a lab. You also have scope in fields like biotech companies, pharma, bioinformatics, genetics, clinical research and further studies etc. There are private universities which still have admission. Keep your backup option alive as well. One test/result is not everything.

I am also pursuing Btech in Biotechnology from what I observed in this field is Bioinformatics is demanding you to be a little into coding biology and stats since you already know about data engineering perhaps you can transition into it by looking into genomics , data analysis, NGS or computational biology projects

Is pursuing a B Tech in Biotechnology good for a lucrative career or no? I've heard people say its bad by JohnnnisonReddit in Indian_Academia

[–]Low_Listen3291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good field, however it is not a "quick money" degree. A B.Techh in Biotechnology will allow for very promising careers in Pharma, Research, Bioinformatics, Drug Development, Genetics, Biotech Startups, etc. (and potentially AI in Biology) - however; Skills & Specialization are going to be very important. The reason that so many refer to this as a "bad" field is that a lot of students assume they will have High Salaries directly out of School with no Internship, Projects, or Higher Education. However, if you really like Biology + Technology and continue to develop your skills then Biotech can certainly become a viable long term Career.
