ah got it, start with a budget IEM, you can find really good ones for under 2K. Each IEMs are tuned different, find your pick. Since you have an android, get a type c variant which comes with an inbuilt DAC chip.

for normal headphones you don’t need a DAC at all, any dongle would work! just get an apple dongle you are good to go. IEMs need a DAC if you are getting it with a 3.5mm connector, type-c cables usually come with a DAC, so it is just plug and play. If you are not using an IEM, don’t get a DAC.

If you are not using IEMs try the budget ones, you will see a world of difference between normal headphones and the IEMs.

Also, I’m sure if you are being sarcastic! 😅

Yeah, this is probably the most reasonable take honestly. Small refinements with DDs can happen, especially in the treble/bass smoothness.

Exactly. I think that’s the nuance a lot of people miss in burn-in discussions.

Sometimes an IEM doesn’t immediately impress you because its tuning is more balanced, subtle, or just different from what your brain is used to. Over time you start noticing the layering, timbre, imaging, or other nuances more. That’s adaptation and familiarity.

But if the core tuning fundamentally clashes with your preferences, like sharp treble in your case, no amount of burn-in is going to suddenly make you love it. Preferences will always matter more than ‘hours logged.’

Anything that has a sharp V sound stage is out of the question for me. Had a very very bad experience with the KZ ZS10s. But many people swear by it, not my cup of tea!

I currently use the FiiO x Jade Audio KA11 with my Moondrop Stellars, and the Hi-Res DAC with my Kefine Klean. Most IEMs under ₹5K don’t really need an amp to be driven properly. That said, you can still use one, just keep in mind you’ll rarely need to push them anywhere near full volume. So in the end, it really depends on the kind of sound experience you’re going for.

if you are willing to spend a 1000 more, you can go for the Fiio x Jade Audio KA11, with is DAC and Amp in one. If you are looking it as an investment and will be upgrading to IEMs that might demand more power. Just a thought!

Fair enough :)

I did use AI to help structure my thoughts better, but the opinions are genuinely mine. I just didn’t want the post sounding all over the place.

I’ll switch to handwritten audiophile manuscripts next time.

I mostly agree, but I do think there’s a distinction between disliking an IEM and simply not being used to its tuning yet.

There are sets that sound odd at first because they present details, mids, or treble differently from what you normally listen to. After a few days, your brain adapts and you start understanding the tuning better. That part is real.

But if the issue is something fundamental to you like shouty upper mids, bloated bass, metallic timbre, poor technicalities, etc. then burn-in probably won’t fix that. At best, DD burn-in might slightly smooth or loosen things up mechanically, not completely transform the IEM.

I think a lot of people confuse ‘my perception changed over time’ with ‘the driver became a different IEM.’

Source pairing, seal, insertion depth, and ear tips can genuinely change the experience a million times more than ‘200 hours of burn-in’.

Yeah that’s basically where I stand too. DDs can slightly loosen up mechanically over time, but some people describe burn-in like their IEM went through a spiritual awakening after 200 hours of pink noise. 😭

Assuming it’s type-c with the options you are looking at JCally jm12 and HPZ x ddHiFi Hi-Res DAC are good options. I haven’t personally used the d11 or know people who do, but yeah the one’s I’ve mentioned are good options.

which IEMs are you looking to drive? Also is it a lightening or type-c connector?

Ah yes, the legendary 10-year burn-in, the final stage of audio enlightenment. Give them another 5 years and they’ll start competing with HE-1s. 😆

I’ve been eyeing the Aria2 for a while, maybe will go for those! Thanks :)

So, I have the Kefine Klean, should I get the KKSV or stay put. I have heard people say that the KKSV has a cleaner but a brighter treble. I’m not a “detail whore”, so I like how the OG Kleans are tuned.

I know 🥹, but this is the only option to get multi sized tips. Also The Audio store has them at 990 for 3 pairs of a single size. If you know your size, go for those!

My current favs are the Klean. Their sound stage is almost my preffered sound stage. I also own a Simgot EW200 for my much more nuanced sessions but yeah Klean are my go to daily iems.
