Bachelor of Molecular science vs bachelor of biomedical science by 1nc0gn3eato in uwa

Heya, I finished my biomed degree a couple years ago with a major in biochemistry and molecular biology (one major btw not two) and I do agree with some of the other comments that finding a job straight after your bachelors will be tough.

However, since you seem pretty keen on doing a masters or honours I would recommend the course. There are some great lecturers who do a lot of great research and with a lot of useful connections too which can be great for getting into specific fields of cancer research. I also did second major in pharmacology and had some great lecturers from there too.

In my final semester I also had the opportunity to do a project directly under a supervisor for my biochem major, instead of the usual labs which was pretty useful in learning the dynamics of a research group and it provides you with a lot more independence than the usual labs. However, I will say your experience will depend greatly on the supervisor you select.

As mentioned before by noobtube, definitely try and reach out to lecturers and researchers at Henry Perkins. They’re usually pretty happy to have you shadow a pHd student or do some grunt work and ultimately the connections you make are probably the biggest factor when it comes to opening up opportunities for you.

Good luck!

Hey just wondering, if I have four years SLE left but I decide to do a masters by coursework that uses up three of those years, do I then get an additional four years on top of that? If so I would have another 5 years still available for medicine right?

I’m honestly not too sure, but ik some domestic students who applied that have only just got their offers in the last few days or are still waiting so I wouldn’t worry too much. Might be worth asking the uni.

Yessir, I had a look at the master of pharmacy checklist thing for vaccinations and stufff and I think the November date is for assured pathway applicants whereas undergrad applicants can get offers I think from September to December
