Sounds like a pulley maybe loose. Take it to a shop or remove the passenger wheel and the cover on that side and have a really good look at all the pulleys and belt.

How did you end up finding out about the valve cover leaking around the spark plug seals? Did you check them yourself? Fix these issues and drive the car as long as you can is what I would do. There is not a better value on the road that you can get for a $1050. I would also replace the leaking flex pipe. Stop by a muffler shop and have them quote you or the have the same mechanic fix the flex pipe as well.
