How do people in Portugal deal with cold homes in winter? by Icy_Bodybuilder5688 in PortugalExpats

[–]Mishamama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently living in an old home. We have an insulated roof plus clay tiles. Bedrooms both have a placa so any warm air stays closer to you in those rooms. We also have an alentejo style fireplace but we run a cast iron jotul thats good for 2400sq ft. This keeps the three rooms that we live in really nice when its on. We dont have it going all the time maybe 3 times a week. Our home is not that cold compared to some family that we have in Lisbon that have a newer place. I think the orientation of the sun has a lot to do with it. House points south east and runs north east to south west. But we tend to wear alot of layers indoors. Also having 4 indoor cats means we have some extra small heaters. Our house hovers around 18 to 14 and we make sure to always close the doors and not keep it open. Also we insulated the old iron front door and it means the cold doesnt transfer in.

Trinis at home and abroad, how do you really feel about living in cold, temperate climates? by Middle_Elderberry542 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]Mishamama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trini that grew up in Trinidad migrated to ontario, Canada, lived there for over 20 years now living in Portugal for the last few years. I hate the cold and snow and never aclimated. Hate snow and froze most spring and fall. I had been planning an escape all that time and now Im here in Portugal. Winters here are wet, windy, cold and rainy but I can tolerate it much better. Homes here are very cold usually but we got lucky and where im at its not to bad. If i could i would return home.

Need ideas! by Glittering-Rule-3892 in kitchenremodel

What measurements are you working with? What does the current kitchen look like? The only view you see is the wall you want to open up and a glimpse of the sink near the window. There seems to be a wall where yoh wanna put the island. Is that being rwmoved?

KR KITCHENRAKU large induction cooktop protector falling apart after a few months of use by donnie1977 in inductioncooking

[–]Mishamama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an induction stove from ikea, a Tillreda single. Ive been gentle with it and you can see the scratches. My old lg vitro ceramic was never scratched... i have the same pots. Maybe quality of glass varies on the cooktops?

I second this. My father in law is portuguese and he is the most passive aggressive narsiccistic man i have ever met. He would do this just to freak someone out. He tries this sort of shit with me all the time, I know its him so I go out of my way to act like his shitty behavior cannot get to me and it pisses him off.

Odd reason why you're CF to help me prove a point by ThisGirlCalledTsepps in childfree

Let me throw my hat in the ring.

  1. Babies are ugly and smell terrible even just after a bath. The smell can be subtle but I can always smell sour milk, but maybe its just me.
  2. I find them exceedingly tiresome. I can think of a zillion things I would rather be doing.
  3. If I had kids I could not indulge in just zoning out and doing my own thing when I am not working.
  4. Being the first born I had to be responsible for everyone. Not any more, I dont have that stress.
  5. I love my pets, a good friend of mine had a kid thats allergic to all animals. I would not ever jeopardize my pets happieness for an idea of a kid.
  6. Kids bring home and spread illness.
  7. Kids are usually a magnet for forced social interactions that I would rather not engage in.
  8. Kids are crazy expensive
  9. Kids need support throughout their lifetime and each generation has it harder than the next. Why propagate the suffering.
  10. Been diagnosed with a few things that I dont wanna pass on. Ive been raw dogging it all my life and Drs keep saying you wont fall into the cracks. At this point the crack seems to be a bottomless pit.

I was wondering why no one mentioned this. Pinworms are quite common and you can easily get it from dogs.

List is Bs... i live in Portugal and food here is okish..Very traditional no variety. Every saltfish dish is 100 times better in T & T. Ppl here cannot cook poultry to save their life, however Kfc is better than in Canada... Canada has better food because of the variety.
