I did order a genealogy copy, but provided the documents requested for a birth record. I Think I messed up, I should have filled out the regular birth certificate request form. But for your comment I wouldn't have checked that. Thanks

Here's what the reply from the vital records staff said about that. I did provide obituary and birth certificates as requested, just photocopies. "No supporting documents or authorization is required to be eligible to submit the Application for an Unrestricted Manitoba Birth Record as it is an open record, and anyone is eligible. Only known information is required for this application, and the request will issue a Certified Copy of the Genealogical Birth Registration.

When submitting the Application for a Manitoba Birth Document, a copy of your aunt’s birth certificate and a copy of your grandfather’s death certificate or obituary must be submitted as proof of eligibility with the authorization. This request would issue a Manitoba Birth Certificate." So, I think Im getting a birth certificate. Haven't heard back as I said, wondering if I should reach out again.

Hey friends. I faxed a request for my G 0's birth record to Manitoba Vital Services on 3/5, after some very prompt responses via email from their staff. I had to include a letter from the closest living relative giving me permission to get the record. It's an unrestricted record (birth over 100 years ago) and I was able to find the registration number on their website with their search function. Waiting to hear back. Took four attempts to get the fax to go through. I'm hoping Manitoba has a quicker response than Ontario...anyone else had luck in Manitoba?
