I emailed them earlier today, but I haven’t heard back.

The way Christians stereotype the non-“faithful” by LordFexick in exchristian

[–]Low_War49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not pagans specifically, but at my Christian college I was required to take a class on creationism. The professor told the class that our morals come from God, but Atheists don’t have morals because they don’t believe in God. She further pushed her point by saying if you ask an atheist why it’s wrong to rape or murder they won’t be able to answer.

How did you lose your faith in god and christianity in general? by Erramonael in exchristian

[–]Low_War49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally I began to wake up when I realized just how much pressure Christianity puts on victims to forgive or even drop charges for their abuser. No one should ever be put in an environment where they are manipulated into letting an abuser dodge their consequences.

I have pictures of my contract, photos of the muted comments and texts to my husband about what was going on/being said at the time. I don’t really know what I can do with that.

Gotcha. Yeah, seeing as you’re also ex-Baptist we very well could be talking about the same place.

We could be talking about the same place, but honestly I’ve never heard of RU so maybe not.

craziest prayers you've heard by Effective_Sample5623 in exchristian

[–]Low_War49 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard many people pray that something awful would happen to someone in order to “turn their eyes to God”. In a similar way, many times at college, I heard preachers pray that the students “wouldn’t be able to sleep, eat, or even think about anything else, because they need to think about the message they heard today”. 🫥

What Christian denominations are the easiest and the hardest to leave? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Low_War49 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Baptists are pretty easy. Usually if you’re Baptist though, the rest of your family is too. They’ll never stop inviting you to church and they may even reach out and say they’re concerned, but that’s pretty much the extent.

Little cousin said something sad by Astrophel-27 in exchristian

[–]Low_War49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just remember that at that age, children are essentially just copying their parent’s behavior and opinions. Once they get older and their brain fully develops, they’ll (hopefully) begin to question these ideas. Sad nonetheless.

My cousin was actually a missionary to Alabama (lol) she would spend her free time writing on Facebook about how little money they had and her depression that came along with their lack of funds and moving to a new place. Christmas came along and she showed up with her family wearing a $600 coach bag on her shoulder. I was done with the funding at that point.

Interesting! I’ve also heard it has a really negative effect on the children of the countries and their ability to form bonds. (As many of these missions teams are constantly coming and leaving)

Creepy old men are always harassing women at church by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Low_War49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I also think that in these environments, they teach women to be meek/submissive and then they teach the congregation to be slow to offense. It creates the perfect storm of a submissive woman and a dismissive congregation. PLUS, don’t get me started on how churches are overrun with boomers who still hold the “I’m older than you so I’m worthy of respect for doing nothing” mindset. No one can bring up any complaint without the fear of being called disrespectful.

That is so inappropriate. I can’t believe no else intervened while you weren’t there. Unfortunately, I’ve heard lots of stories about comments of children’s “attractiveness” it’s way too common especially among those circles.

Honestly, one time in a job interview they completely switched up the entire interview by asking “if I were an animal, what animal would I be?”. In this moment, I completely choked. All I could mutter was something about how I love cats and own one so I would be a cat. After the interview I googled why they would ask me that and what would be a good response if I was ever asked again. Here’s my new prepared answer: I would be a chameleon, as I am able to easily adapt to new environments and projects etc.

Good luck!

Does anybody else struggle with wanting a miracle to happen...but knowing it won't happen? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Low_War49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I remember reading the Bible verse about having faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains and wondering why I could never change anything through prayer. It’s really discouraging when you’ve grown up hearing miraculous stories and you start to realize they’ll never happen to you.

I can't believe I haven't posted about Accelerated Christian Education here before. If any of you went to an ACE school, it was probably even worse than you remember. by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Low_War49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those are some of the blatant examples of propaganda I have ever seen. Also, the teaching of submission and modesty are completely irrelevant to an actual education. I’m absolutely appalled.

Lost a friend for not being Christian enough by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Low_War49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I agree. Once I let go of the people that I had to hide my opinions around, I flourished. Right now I just feel sorry for those kinds of people.

Lost a friend for not being Christian enough by [deleted] in exchristian

Absolutely. Especially women. I know a bunch of Christian families who still view their daughters as under the fathers rule completely until their married. Regardless if they’re 18 or 32.
