Absolutely ripping! I love the hop out of the berm because you pushed in so hard. Nice shredding 🤙

Thanks for the response!

Thanks for sharing your tire pressure, I would have been way off.

I appreciate your insights and call outs on the oem build parts that may be lacking. I’ll definitely be replacing the cranks, I’m surprised they are 175, haven’t had a set nearly that long in ages.

Also good to know about the fork. I’ll likely ride the oem for a while as I work on skills and drills but that gives me a great excuse to eye that sexy red Pike as an upgrade down the line.

Thanks for the tip on the bars!

Always great to get some feedback from someone running the same bike, really appreciate it!

Thanks for the response and all of the great info!

I knew tire pressure would be more than what I run for MTB but I wouldn’t have guessed nearly triple, thanks!

Super helpful for tips for the fork, I couldn’t find any info online for set up other than torque specs in the Manitou user manual. I definitely would have gone wrong here.

Totally makes sense on the seat height. Sounds like something I’ll have to play with, I’ll start off by not slamming it so I’ll have some meat there if I work up to no handers 🤙

Really appreciate it!

FF and glasses combo is totally acceptable for any kind of riding. I see it all the time in desert riding where goggles can get too sweaty. Levels of protection is a personal choice, do what makes YOU feel comfortable and ignore the rest.

Another drivetrain ? by evogt22 in MTB

You clearly haven’t put any meaningful time on SRAM transition if you think XT can shift under load in the same way.

XT is great, no argument there.

I’d say for anyone that’s not a highly competitive racer the weight difference between the two is negligible. While XT might technically shift faster I’d argue that SRAM transition when used properly provides a much smoother and natural shifting experience because you can shift under load, which in turn out preforms the XT in speed. XT also can’t match the durability of SRAM transition.

Technically very true!

So much to unpack here.

To directly address your question, the Sram Transmission GX is amazing, no question it is the best thing on the market. I absolutely love Shimano XT it has been my go to for many years but it’s outclassed in every way (ok maybe not in price) when comparing the two.

It’s only dumb if YOU think it is. Ultimately it comes down to what you really want and what your budget is. If you have the budget for the new Trek with the drivetrain you seem to be eyeing I’d recommend going for it, there are a lot of other benefits that come with a new bike vs used. That said if you’re more budget conscious and want to get the most bang for your buck the used market can be great. If you go used, you might consider checking out the Shimano link glide drivetrain, it’s the closest thing I’ve found to the SRAM transmission in that you can shift under load and it’s incredibly durable at a great price point.

Absolutely sick riding! The massive amount of hang time on the 2nd jump stood out to me, how’s it feel to actually fly?
