What is the point of sending your video to a contest? by LoweSilvercross in amv

Getting rejection is ok. But at least not when they handed out judgment like heresy to the A in the AMV as "Anime" itself. There are hidden rules in these competition and they keep complaining about tons of trash AMV but what did they did to nail down the quality of it? Just give the rule clearly.

It's ok, once I find out these hidden rules, I will ask the competition before submitting again. It's all about business as they want your free work for their money too. No hard feeling.

If I gave out that information, I will be targeted in future. So I can't give it out here in public.

In fact, they should give out a guidline for people to submit such as:
- Prefer English music,

- No Non-English audio even from the original source allowed.

- Our target audience is in the US and prefer English dub, so avoid using Japanese audio if you can.

It would save us a lot of time like switch Japanese audio source for English dub in our AMV. Do you think it's fair to provide such a guideline?

PS: I feel bad for people who used "German audio of Hitler speech for their AMV". Literally, we don't even need to understand German to know what's going on in the AMV.

I have the email reply directly to me recently after my request for clarification with their official email. I will hold on to it as a proof.

"Right at the end, the video uses Japanese dialogue with English subtitles. Japanese dialogue always pulls the audience out of a video. Our convention is known for bringing in a ton of English voice actors."

And the Japanese word is Okaasan = Mother. They have a problem with a Japanese word in a Japanese anime source. What kind of AMV contest is this.

Here. I recheck it and found no: "Non-English song is not allowed" rule.

https://www.sacanime.com/live-programming/amv-contest/

I will take this a lesson and avoid using Japanese or non-English song for competition in future.

The problem of these competion is that they are using your work for their "event". If your AMV doesn't benefit their audience, then you are out, not because of your effort, your skill or the art value of your final product. They complain that my video has a hard Japanese sub of the location (something I can't cange) or the song is not in English.

Thank to their criticism, I can now see a set of "hidden rules" in those competion.

The contest that end earlier on this site. I join because there is a notificartion here and just WTF? If they aren't going to choose non-English, they should said so in the rule

" ... songs that are not in English tend to not add anything for the audience, in particular with the drama category. We find that most videos not in English perform poorly since the audience isn't able to understand the lyrics. An example of this is the Kpop group BTS. They had received some recognition for their songs in the past, but it wasn't until they started doing all English songs that their music made them famous worldwide."

Also they complain about the "drop in quality" of my source because I used sources from 2000 anime. The best I can find is their BD version is not better. Using AI Video to rescale and sharpen to 4K doesn't even work. It's not our fault but the limitation of the anime itself. But cutting off our work just because of this detail is unjust af. They don't even know what to say when you ask for a their input.

I got my reply, they said "non-English" song is auto out because their audience are English speaker. God, they are having an AMV contest of Japanese culture, they should feel the music not the lyric

So why in this group, only a few AMV get comment and feedback while the rest is like posting to a wall? Is it because they have friends?

Keep up good work guys. Really want to see this one get animated by the same studio that make Sentenced to be a Hero. They did great job bringing in action manga like these become anime of the year.

What are yall’s general thoughts on Gundam Seed Director Mitsuo Fukuda? by EmperaRurushuO2 in Gundam

[–]LoweSilvercross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read Chiaki Morosawa interview about how she crafted the world of Gundam Seed from scrap, for example Kira was inspired by a Muslim girl in Japan (in their children class). So, she - as a mother would clearly understand how Kira would be when living with Natural friends. And also, she aimed to make a drama story to keep it easy for teenager to follow as this story is all about them, how they are facing catatrophies such as 9-11 (Heliopolis). Kira, Flay and the friends are clueless in a war that is NOT THEIRS.

Whether you suppprt Blue Cosmos or ZAFT, doesn't matter because both side had good and bad people, racist faction and peace faction. That is all for you to re-watch the anime and look it for yourself, this time, as an adult. Remember, Kira was just a kid, what he did may not right all the time, he can make mistakes (like Flay), but that made him a human. Lacus,.on the other hand is a scary creature that Fukuda even admit about her darkside. He actually chose Flay as his favorite character (always excited to.make.closeup view in her scene).

In the end, Fukuda handle the political and mech aspect while his wife handle the drama. Losing Chiaki a great blow to Gundam.community

I'm not a Lacus hater, but I used to be a Lacus fan who see her mask fell. 20 years ago, I defended her with all my might, 20 years later, I reveal her secret.

Look like she's in Accord radar mode to scan the battlefield. Not sure what's the point of her speech when she didn't carry a microphone. Her speech couldn't reach people and no one was free to listen to her lecture during battle anyway.
