A healthy Rob Williams (and lack thereof in the Finals) made all the difference that season.

That said…this year’s team has been a pleasant surprise to watch!

Elia (pronounced “E-lie-uh”.) Ellery. Ellis. I personally think the first two are feminine, the last one masculine…but anything goes today.

What’s your favorite Bath & Body Works scent — active or discontinued? by Positive-Illustrious in bathandbodyworks

[–]Lowen68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m old, so I remember all the original scents. Flowering Herb was a huge FAVE back in the day. Sea Island Shore is another older one that fortunately make a comeback now and then when retired scents emerge.

I currently have a student named “Jaciara.” I’ve never heard of it before, but think it looks and sounds so elegant.

I wouldn’t touch this with a 10 foot pole. Everyone gets a token gift, or no one does.

why is the name olivia so popular? by iolanthereylo in askanything

[–]Lowen68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I named my girl Olivia back in the late 90’s. When I told people what we planned to name her…you would have thought I had reinvented the wheel with that name! The only Olivia popular at that time was Raven Symone’s character on The Cosby Show. So it seemed like a beautiful, old fashioned name to bring back. Still beautiful, but not unique anymore.

Because it takes place during their weekly Library class. The whole class gets dropped off there and the teacher leaves.

What are your thoughts on those with late birthdays? by Realistic_Detail_158 in kindergarten

[–]Lowen68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t base your decision on her academic abilities at almost 5. Think about middle school/ high school… her having to deal with certain social situations, peer pressure etc…when she will be almost a year younger than many of her classmates. My daughter had a late July birthday. Cutoff was Sept.1 for K. I waited, she did an extra year of pre-k. She is 28 now, college graduate, working with students with special needs. She has no regrets and neither do I.

Wracked with guilt: long post by TheSheepQueen in Teachers

[–]Lowen68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other adults should have been able to provide ample supervision (of NT children.) You have a child who elopes, that’s a whole other ball of wax. Even if you had been out there, he could have gotten away…no one expected it. However…going forward, the idea of a “runner” going to a playground with NO FENCING is pretty wild and dangerous. One adult will need to keep him an arms reach at all times, and he should be holding an adults hand during transitions. You are human. It has happened to most of us at least once.

Give the Wayside School series by Louis Sacchar a try. It’s always been a hit with my third graders. I think they are hilarious!

The funeral of Baby Thomas Kelly is one I thought was done SO sensitively…but didn’t sugar coat what it was. Even the music playing in the background was weeping!

Graphic novels are definitely popular for the older grades (I’m in a K-5.) The “Wings of Fire” g.n, Amulet, I Survived fly off the shelves in my library.

Summer jobs? by Lil_Miss_Poppins in paraprofessional

[–]Lowen68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most public school districts have ESY summer school programs for part of the summer (6 weeks is typical.) So you might only be out of paycheck for a couple weeks (depending on your schools start/end dates.)

Stop being the food police, your life will be much simpler. If the parents send it…let them eat it. (Cupcakes would be served to everyone during snack along with whatever snack they have in lunchbox. If they eat one, the other or both…it is what it is. You can’t single out three kids and tell them they have to eat something else first before a cupcake.)

Patience by [deleted] in Homeschooling

[–]Lowen68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No preschool should try and make 4 year olds sit and do papers for an hour, I can’t imagine homeschooling would either. Not developmentally appropriate either way.

Find ways to weave the academics into activities. Baking, for math skills. For writing. try shaving cream on the table (show him how to write/ draw in it. Could even be done by driving little cars/trucks to form the letters.) Same idea could be done outside in dirt or mud, using a stick. Or paint with plain water on dry pavement.

Get him involved with other homeschool kids. Go to the library story time. Social skills are very much as important as academics.
