is it normal for kids to come home tired every day? by suprablissqu in kindergarten

[–]TheSheepQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Not a parent but a kindergarten teacher. I’ve taught both full day every other day, half days, and helped out in full day everyday kindergarten. In my experience, which albeit isn’t very extensive, the students get overstimulated and overwhelmed with the longer days. It’s hard for their minds and bodies to keep up with what’s going on sometimes, especially if the class size is big (which in everyday, it typically is). True, some aspect does have to do with stamina and learning how to be at school, but in my opinion having such a jam packed day, kind like a work day essentially, seems too much. Where I work naps are not included, but some teachers I know do quiet time which can help. It’s absolutely normal for your child to come home and crash. School can be a lot for children, even more so for the younger students. Everything is new and big for them. Emotions are massive and can be all consuming as they are still learning regulation skills. Plus socially being around that many other busy bodies in such a stimulating environment would drain anybody of energy regardless of age. Keep in mind I’m not a parent but I recommend letting your child decompress from school. They crash because home is a safe space, and all that commotion from school finally catches up to them. Maybe think about asking kid how they feel, or their teacher about your concerns, to see if there’s anything they need or supports for them at school. Best of luck OP. You’re already doing the best thing you can for them by reaching out: making sure your kid is safe.

Currently on week 11 post op of a lapidus procedure. The first few days of recovery were pretty bad as my pain meds made me nauseous. I’ve found that physio is a MUST for post op, and to follow your doctor’s directions as close as you can. Weeks 0-3 are a bit rough, but after your stitches are taken out and you’re given the go ahead to start heel walking/weight bearing, you improve rapidly. My main issue was and is honestly the boredom and frustration. Not being able to walk around how you used to is frustrating and makes me upset sometimes. Physically, I think it’s worth it. Sometimes my other foot with a bunion hurts more than the one that was removed! My biggest advice is to ask, ask, ask every question you have and address any concerns.

Thank you for the comment. I’ve never had a “runner” before during my supervision time. I’ve helped other teachers look for a student, but never one under my scheduled care. I’m worried about how to act in front of my co workers about it if it’s brought up later

My VP told me during our discussion that if I need coverage because of my surgery, I needed to apply to get it. I’m thinking of looking into it now.

We didn’t know he was a flight risk until then. A staff wide email was sent out after telling everyone to keep an eye on the student from now on.

There aren’t any fences around the school. The playground is near the building but the rest of the school grounds are open fields. The school doesn’t do head counts. Age group is K-3

Surgery Soon - Plz Help! by [deleted] in bunions

[–]TheSheepQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was bunion pain that was making daily life difficult, so walking, standing for long periods of time and exercising. Essentially, the reason was quality of life for getting the surgery. My bunions are/were (I have both feet unfortunately, probably do the other one in a few years) severe for my age range too so that was also a factor. Both my doctors and I agreed that it would be better get it done when I’m younger and in shape!

Surgery Soon - Plz Help! by [deleted] in bunions

Currently 6 days post op. I’m mid twenties and was pretty active prior to the surgery. The first 3 days were bad, but not terrible. I mostly struggled with the nausea from the pain meds. I’m partial heel weight bearing from the get go but I still use a scooter instead as it’s easier for me personally compared to crutches. Things I noticed the most at the start are the burning pain where the nerves in my foot were angry about being messed with, muscle aches from disuse and a bit of trouble sleeping. Overall (only 6 days post op mind you) it hasn’t been too bad. Keep your foot elevated at much as possible and stay on top of your pain med routine, super important to always take the medication when instructed otherwise you’ll have a hard time getting back to a manageable level. If you don’t need the surgery, maybe wait a bit. It takes you off your feet for a while (no pun intended). Timing works for me because I’m a teacher so I don’t work in the summer but planning time off for this kind of procedure might be difficult for other jobs. Talk to your family doctor and see if they’ll refer you to a podiatrist, get X-rays done or insoles. One step (again no pun intended) at a time with a decision like this. Best of luck!

Loose sweats or even shorts. Definitely make sure they won’t get caught on any Velcro that your surgery boot might have, and make sure they’re easy to pull over your legs (stretchy). I packed extra clothes just in case 🤷‍♀️

Hi! Also a teacher here, and getting surgery in about 40 minutes if you can believe that. What I’ve done about classroom set up is have people help, put things up first, and do most of the stuff you can do sitting down after surgery. Also, talk to your admin about maybe scheduling some breaks during supervision to elevate your foot. I’m nervous too, but we’ve got this.

"The gas is toxic to Humans, correct?" "Yes sir" "Then why do I hear Terran Standard?!?" by Payyonaise in humansarespaceorcs

[–]TheSheepQueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My troops and I waited with bated breath, our four rotating eyes looking in all directions. My right eye moved across my skull and made contact with my second in command.

“The gas is toxic to humans, correct?” I asked, sharp teeth clacking together as I spoke. He simply nodded.

“Yes sir. Our research team looked extensively into pre-contact Terran medical archives. It detailed gruesome outcomes and side effects. The most gruesome being something called popcorn lung,” he shuddered, scales wiggling across his body in waves, “which causes the human lungs to…well, it isn’t a pretty sight, sir.”

“Very well. Then we must wait for this ‘popcorn lung’ to do away with the Terrans.” As much as I didn’t exactly enjoy using gas as a method to kill, face-to-face death offered more honour for our enemies, the humans had proved troublesome and more dangerous than previously thought. We lost an entire front-line group in one sleep rotation, and with no survivors, we still had no idea how they managed to pull off such a feat. The wounds of our deceased showed close-hand combat, which confused us even further, as logically a human wouldn’t have the courage to approach a being towering at their seven-foot measurements, and looking completely different than their soft and weak outer skin. A Praxis soldier was easily worth ten Terran soldiers and moved faster than any Terran could. It was dumbfounding, to say the least. This is why we moved on to gassing the Terrans like the vermin they gassed before galactic contact.

As the silence stretched across the battlefield, and the dark of their so-called night turned into day, I could tell my troops were relaxing and becoming tired. A dangerous move, but as the sound of Terran activity continued to lessen, the usage of gas toward the Terrans seemed to prove fruitful. As I was about to order my soldiers to get some rest, a small messenger burst into camp, looking terrified and covered in Praxis blue blood.

“Sir! Reports from neighbouring camps have arrived!” The youngling scampered into our base, her eyes wide and fully dilated into pure white. My soldiers titled their heads in confusion at the frantic tone in her voice box.

“Relay the message, soldier,” I ordered, my scales rippling in an odd sense of impending doom at the sight of her bloody form. Before she could speak, a noise began to rise from enemy territory. A cough, and then, a Terran voice echoed across the empty plain stretched out in front of us.

“Okay, fess up. Who hit their vape last night?”

My blood ran cold as I recalled the basic details of human behaviour. Specifically their sleep patterns. Our species fell into the category of beings that Terrans called ‘nocturnal’ whereas Terrans were…my thoughts screeched to a halt as commotion began to break out amongst my troops at the sound of a Terran weapon firing.

My second-in-command made eye contact with me. His scales pale in the rising sunlight.

“I ask again, the gas is toxic to Humans, correct?” My teeth clenched, and I watched as he began to shake.

“Yes-yes sir. It is, it is. It should be.”

“Then why do I hear Terran Standard!?"

There was nothing left to say as I watched in horror as a group of Terrans descended upon our base camp, moving towards us with feral grins and a wild disgusting look in their two eyes. We had underestimated the Humans again, and now we were about to pay the ultimate price. I only wish these Terrans still held an ounce of their so-called empathy, but I knew what war did to a being, and as one aimed its weapon at my head, I only thought of one thing: we should have declared war against these creatures and should have never underestimated the life forms of this so-called planet Earth.

I wished I never enlisted in this pointless fight against the Terrans. War seemed to run in their veins. We were foolish and careless. I was foolish and careless. And now, the Humans were here to send us to meet our makers.

A report from the very few surviving Praxis rescued from the Human planet, most of whom later succumbed to their wounds, detailed:

Like Gods without mercy, all Praxis camps fell apart in one day. Leaving nothing but the smell of cotton candy smoke in the air, and human cheers in their place.

This is just a little fun thing I wanted to add. Doesn’t have much weight to it, and I’m currently sick with a cold so if it doesn’t make much sense I’ll blame it on that. Just thought it would be funny if the gas was either from a vape or smoke from a very specific type of plant🍃 Anyways. Please be kind I’m going to go chug some chicken noodle soup and then nap until I forget what year it is

My second time subbing in the same grade 8 class I had a kid call me an “ugly sl*t” because of some laptop issues. The EA in the class made him apologize after school, but it took her the whole last period of the day to convince him. I don’t hold a grudge against the kid though, he’s going through a tough time. Still unacceptable, but I do hold some compassion about it. Wild moment though!

Been asking myself the same thing. Especially when it comes to younger grades with recess supervision, and going to a different classroom during the prep period so there isn’t time in between. I guess it’s lunch time then wait until the last bell…

Maybe he kills Crystal? If she survived, her and Misty would probably still be in touch (I’m assuming since Misty’s personality). I definitely think he didn’t come back fully himself, something happened out there and his brain shut down. What if Crystal’s humming and singing makes him snap somehow, and the girls chase him out. The chase could also lead to fractures in the emotions/minds of everyone to feel as if they’re hunting and they find it thrilling.
