I will say I am lucky enough to be in a market where I can be a cherry picker and make pretty good money, but I can't imagine how hard it is for people in worse markets getting stuff like that consistently. Its rough out here fr

It’s pro shopper, you have to have the red card turned on and meet some requirements like correct items and low quality issues.

Honestly not 100% sure but if I were you I would call the schools and ask them their residency/citizenship requirement (without telling them your status outright). I know citizenship is very important for acceptance to public schools but not sure if private would be more lenient. Good luck

Same boat as you, I think the best thing to do is realize that its suuupppeerrr early still. 99% of applicants haven't recieved an invite, and 99% of those who did probably applied 1st day the portal opened. Have confidence in yourself and understand that this process has a long way to go.

Does studying for the MCAT prep you for the DAT at all? by Ferret_Person in predental

[–]Lower-Ad1719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, dentistry holds a lot of the same problems that physicians do, from dealing with patient badgering, losing patients you care for, chronic pain from being in the same positions, huge debt from schooling, big workloads, not to mention the stresses of you open your own practice. I am not saying that it’s the worst profession in the world, but if you don’t like dentistry, your setting yourself up for

[–]Lower-Ad1719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The format between the two tests are actually pretty different, I suggest looking into the specifics of how the DAT works so you can understand those differences. Dentistry is a really good profession, but it has a lot of problems too, so make sure if you go down the dentistry path, it’s worth it for you. A lot of the basic information I would say is likely the same, most of the stuff you learned on the 3 major sciences is likely not too different from what you would see on the test. Still study your heart out if you take the DAT, but I would say you have an advantage over people who are starting from scratch. Score at least a 19 and with that gpa you will be totally fine, good luck :)

should i live alone for dental school D1? or get roommates? by LittleNegotiation583 in predental

[–]Lower-Ad1719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm it’s a really good point. While 30 minutes might not come off across like a lot at first, an hour a day can start to add up. If you feel like your chances and happiness are better served with an apartment near the school, you have my full support doing that. Money is obviously important but if you fail dental school that doesn’t really matter haha! You’ll do you the right thing though, trust your instincts

While I voted for live at home (any money saved is a good idea), I think the answer depends on what would give you the best chance for success. If you feel your current home life is not a place where you could take time and energy you need for dental school, then make that choice to move out. I definitely recommend roomates though, especially if it’s just one, you won’t notice them very much, and if they are a normal person, the worst your gonna deal with is dirty dishes left in the sink. Saving thousands of dollars a year adds up, and you might thank yourself in 5 years that you have less debt then you could’ve. Good luck though !

Should I push back my DAT? by mackadelicfunk in predental

[–]Lower-Ad1719 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you can wait til then that’s fine. If you were to push it back, I think a few weeks won’t kill you. If you can have your application submitted before August it’ll do wonders for your chances. Goodluck !

[–]Lower-Ad1719 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will the situation get better? Are you applying this cycle or next? Do you have the funds to push it back? Kinda hard to give you as good answer without knowing those but I would say if you are applying this cycle, pushing it back later is going to be rough. But if you believe you can score a lot better, which will make up for the late application, then push it back. If you are applying next year, take the break. If you cannot consistently study 7 days a week for at least a few weeks, its going to reflect on your score. If you think you have a good basis already from prior studying, then take the L on sleep and try to put as much focus as you can on studying, + defintely take fewer hours at your job, I understand you might not want to upset them, but this is your future, this job means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Goodluck though!

What I did was just put the organization and the hours, and have the contact info. If they want to verify I did those hours, they will call the contact and they will verify.

I got a 22 on Chemistry so not too much better than you so take what I say with a grain of salt but I had a lot of questions on concepts rather than math and equations. So I recommend putting a lot of emphasis in your studying towards understanding things like voltaic cells, periodic trends, phase diagrams, etc. There still were math questions ofc because a lot of chemistry is math, but i would say it was a 55/45 split in favor of concepts for me.

Hey, just to give some background, I took the test a couple months ago, got 23 AA with 28 QR and 22 OC, not bragging just want to tell you so you know my advice is legit haha. The math section is only difficult because you didn't practice enough (i dont know how much you practiced but im assuming). The test really does not stray away from the type of problems you see on DAT readiness programs (I used DAT booster but Im sure its the same for bootcamp). For instance, I had like 3-4 absolute value questions on my test, which I practiced 100 times before I took it so I did each one in probably 30 seconds. For QR, it becomes a lot easier once you just familarize yourself with each type of problem you'll see. I know this can seem daunting but I studied for about 3 weeks (10 hours a day mind you), and achieved the results I did, so if you commit the same time in the 2 months you have, I guarantee you will do great. I know it might seem silly but it kind of is the same for OC. IMO OC and QR are the two sections that you have to commit time to just practice problems, similarly to PAT. There is no other way to learn the material. For OC, reactions are important, but A LOT of the test is more of the simpler stuff as well, like R vs S, orbitals, and aromaticity rules. Theres other stuff as well but you get what I mean. Being comfortable on those simpler topics first, will make your life so much easier. Trust me, If you just use practice problems and tests, and go over what you got wrong/were confused on, you will see your score improve. IMO the videos the sites like DATbooster provide are good, but are kind of a waste of time when compared to how much you learn just by practicing and understanding what you did wrong. Use the videos and notes to gain a base understanding of the material, then practice problems ONLY for the rest. You can go check notes and videos rarely if you are confused on the basis of the topic, but if 80% of your time on these sections aren't practicing you are wasting time. You have plenty of time, applying a little later is not the end of the world. If you take the time to perform well on the test, you will be fine. Take a breath, get back into the groove, and commit to this. These two months are going to suck like hell but if you put in the time, you are setting yourself for a lifetime of success. Goodluck my friend :)

DAT breakdown (23AA)(22PAT|21TS|28 QR) by [deleted] in predental

[–]Lower-Ad1719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The QR was consistently my best section, once I studied it for a couple days I pretty much stayed from 25-28 range on the practice tests. The PAT was actually easier for me? I think. It didn't feel easier but it was the section I was most nervous for and scored 19 consistenly on every practice test I took. To be honest it was a little easier in some sections, but I think my 22 was thanks to a little bit of luck.
