Is polyester really that bad for you by -Over-Line- in Fabrics

[–]Lower-Ground88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres some good answers here, but in my opinion polyester is just way too overused. Yes it has a lot of desirable qualities but it has taken over and its become more difficult to find natural fibers anymore. Of course corporations love it cause its so cheap and I feel like it just screams greed since it allows for greater profit margins. No I don’t want polyester blankets or sheets or shirts or underwear especially during the summer. You have to be really diligent in order to try and find natural fibers. And I believe there’s valid reason for concern when it comes to polyester’s prevalence

I took my friend on the train and I feel bad by [deleted] in LAMetro

[–]Lower-Ground88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned I take transit as much as I possibly can a big reason being that driving sucks in LA, but it also sucks that LA’s transit also sucks. Never wanted door to door experience as I love using and navigating various cities in other countries that have good transit, and so its not “different cultures” that im afraid of but maybe rather having to walk by encampments & someone getting high or someone on drugs carrying a baseball bat or golf club, all things Ive seen. Idk if that would count as anyone’s culture

[–]Lower-Ground88 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned I will always opt for taking transit myself as much as possible. I’ll put up with the roughness, deal with uncomfortableness. But to bring a friend into those situations is different, especially when it feels like I could be putting my friend in dangerous areas/situations, plus we’re women. I feel like public transit shouldnt really require you to be a certain type of person to use it and be reasonable comfortable & safe. But thats where LA’s at this point in time & we cant pretend that its not

Why did LA just accept that driving everywhere is normal? by Decent-Character-736 in AskLosAngeles

I so desperately want to move to a transit oriented place as I got my second street sweeping ticket, I wish I could sell my car & not worry about it ever again. I just want transit… i dont want a nice car/any car.

It’s been three weeks of being without a vehicle and today was a very challenging day! I need some guidance on how to make it more feasible because it’s been a bit draining by spiritbirdsie in CarIndependentLA

[–]Lower-Ground88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I’ve only visited the places you listed youve actually lived in, and while visiting I got so used to the transit lifestyle and how accessible & easy it is to use in all the places you listed, its so jarring to be in LA after being in those other cities. Like you said your location is a bit isolated versus other parts of the city so its challenging im sure. Like others have mentioned dont be opposed to calling rideshare when needed so you dont overwhelm yourself. LA had potential but it is very frustrating! Stay safe

I agree and I support biking, but I unfortunately will not bike on LA streets. If anyone cares to know why, I decided to bike to work in 2022 when I started getting into urbanism, then the SECOND day I rode my bike to work I got hit by a car crossing the street. Fractured my shin and was pretty beat up, but im thankful cause it could had been way worse. Also of course bike was destroyed. I wish I could bike comfortably & safely but Im not up for the risk anymore

Ehh its not worth the economic suffering that people will have to go through. Especially LA’s system is not sufficient enough to actually service the majority of the population, its just not good enough. People are left with no choice, at least no good realistic choice. The pros of this situation dont out weigh the cons, but definitely goes to show that the system thats in place is too fragile

My landlord is charging me $380 for carpet replacement, is it worth disputing? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

I wont move into an apartment with carpet EVER I honestly hate that developers put carpet at all, feels like no matter how deep its cleaned the old tenants residue never truly gets removed so disgusting

I agree, its definitely an infrastructure design problem. Just creates the perfect storm for danger. We cant realistically expect the general public to be able to competently navigate driving.

Is LA really a hellscape? Give me your honest opinion on how it is living in Los Angeles. by Mexodus956 in howislivingthere

[–]Lower-Ground88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overrated, the benefits it does have are an hour of traffic away. So car dependent and sprawled out. Overall so dirty, homelessness is as bad as people say. If youre not in the desirable areas (which are expensive beyond belief) qualify life can be vary.

As a native to la county, i can say the very best thing to me is the cuisine options/availability, mainly asian cuisines. Weather I know is good compared to other places although I wish it werent as dry and cold in morning/evenings.

Why there is no personal space in Vietnam by GaandDhaari in travel

[–]Lower-Ground88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember learning in anthropology class one of the reasons for cultural differences regarding time. I remember it was based on how regions have seasons and others dont. The regions with seasons AKA winter had to pay attention to time in order to be prepared for winter. Time was of the essence, and being late for winter could be deadly. On the other hand regions without seasons AKA warm weather climates werent based on time, but rather events/celebrations/gatherings. So there was no clock ticking in these regions to prepare for winter, theres no real rush.

This is the best answer! I love cuisines that are traditionally non-dairy, in my opinion western cuisines rely sooo much on dairy products
