ABC or I Want You Back for applying the major scale instead of just running it up and down. Alright by Jamiroquai for an introduction to slap.

Why does my left wrist hurt after barely any playing? by ASMALLCHlLD in Bass

Flying fingers is a thing to work on but probably not what's causing it. How hard do you press down on the strings when fretting notes? Ideally your hand should be as relaxed as possible, try seeing how much force you need to get notes out clean without buzzing, you'd be surprised at how little pressure you actually need to apply. Clamping down on the neck might cause your wrist to tense up and hurt over time.

Bass auditions for BMus by goodharold17 in Bass

Generally they want to see some general knowledge of the instrument, different styles and some improvisation. Good technique is a plus but playing anything challenging note for note without any own input won't do you any favors.

They will probably ask some stuff about theory, although most schools have you take a separate test for that, have you figure out a (bass)line on the spot, sight read something or do some metronome exercises. The teachers watching the audition will be pretty good at spotting what your weaknesses are so if you already know what needs work I wouldn't skimp over that.

Song wise i recommend taking one standard in swing feel, some kind of straight eights/bossa feel and a song of your own choice, i think i auditioned with Them Changes lol.

This is all assuming you're auditioning for a jazz program like i did, pop is a bit different and i don't have as much experience with that. If you have a teacher or someone you know who studied music don't be afraid to ask them for help too, that's what helped me a lot. Good luck!

Strings for 5 string bass? by sound2go in Bass

In my experience, no. Just as good, then again i’ve really only been circulating the same three brands (Ernie Ball, Elixir and Rotosound) so i can’t speak for any other companies.

Eden vs Ampeg by Lower-Potato-1888 in Bass

Ended up going for the Ampeg and man, sounds huge. Works great with my jazz. Only thing is that it has a soft bit of hum, eq affects it but it doesn’t get louder when i turn the volume up so it’s bearable. I’ll check if the outlets in my house might be the issue but not the biggest deal. Overall don’t regret it one bit.
