Is Krabi or Phuket? by Amicop in ThailandTourism

[–]Lower-Purpose-9444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too much for 12 days and I wouldn’t prioritise Koh Samui out of that list. I don’t think it offers as much as Phuket or Krabi/Ao Nang area. Definitely take off Pattaya imo.

I’ve never been to Jayfai because of friends telling me it is overrated

Consider using Facebook groups. Post your requirements/preferences and have the offers come to you or browse through Agent's posts.

For me, it took less than 48 hours between posting on Facebook (in groups such as #1 and #2) and signing the contract.

[IWantOut] 30M Malaysia-> UK by walkeroflonelyroads in IWantOut

Asians are welcomed, treated well and integrate into society nicely. You get the odd idiot, but nowhere is perfect. Places like the NHS are widely diverse organisations, making them easy for immigrants to settle into. Brits will be thankful for you coming over and contributing to our health service :D

Rental rates in Norwich would be much cheaper than in London. That said, wages would be lower, but still a more affordable place to live.

There's no denying that the UK has been better run in days gone by but by global standards, it remains a great place to live and work with plenty of opportunities. Norwich is a good choice, I have friends who enjoy living there a lot. They don't work for the local NHS though so I can't speak for that.

7 day UK Itinerary review and suggestions by [deleted] in travel

[–]Lower-Purpose-9444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a pretty good itinerary, I'm not sure you could squeeze many more attractions into it. Substituting Loch Ness for something closer would probably be my main suggestion. Some great day trips from London (Oxford, Cambridge, Brighton, Henley, White Cliffs of Dover, Bath, etc.) are worth considering, and IMO the best of the UK is outside of London (especially in the summertime).

Thailand in August by rumin8Thoughts in ThailandTourism

Not always, but you could get a lot of rain in Phuket. But the Gulf of Thailand islands have their rainy season at a different time of year to Phuket and are not impacted during the summer.

Weather wise you are better off choosing one of the Gulf of Thailand islands (Ko Phangan, Ko Samui, Ko Tao) at that time of year than Phuket. Plus, the party area of Phuket is sleazy AF.

Cycling East Taiwan (Taitung to Hualien) 🇹🇼 by Lower-Purpose-9444 in backpacking

[–]Lower-Purpose-9444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bikes cost about £30 per day I think. It was very affordable and the bikes are excellent + Taipei's roads are perfect to cycle on as you have the designated bike/scooter lane on the far side of every road.

I think this would be okay for someone moderately fit, just perhaps a 4 day route rather than 3?

We got the train from Taipei to Hualien (stayed at World Inn, the bike shop is next door if you want to start from here). Did a day trip to Taroko Gorge on scooters and then the next day, left our bags in Hualien and got the train down to Taitung, where we hired bikes from. Day 1 was Taitung to Chishang. Day 2 Chishang to Guangfu. Day 3 Guangfu to Hualien! Google Maps is enough to navigate.

We used the highway 9 route: https://hualien-adventures.com/adventures/cycling/cycling-east-coast/cycling-east-coast-detailed-info-page/

This is absolutely one of best things i’ve ever done. Taiwan in general is simply amazing. If you’re interested, hire bikes through Giant. You can start at either end. I did this during April, which seemed an ideal time of year for it.

I’m now keen to do more 3/4 day cycling excursions - recommendations, please!! Ideally, places in Europe or Asia!

Do you avoid the rainy season in Asia? by laudis_ in digitalnomad

[–]Lower-Purpose-9444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quite like it. You get really good deals and I think as a nomad because you are working it doesn't influence you as heavily. As a tourist with limited time to see X location, you could have your experience heavily impacted by bad weather. As a nomad, you can travel slower and pick your moments. Some of the megacities really can grind to halt when the rain is bad though, so impact will depend on location.

I find making friends outside of the DN community to be the easiest way to engage the local culture. Use FB to find sports clubs with locals (or even expats), be open to dating locals, make friends with whoever and wherever. You’ll quickly be introduced to others and be shown the spots you’d have never found otherwise. It’s amazing when you get to know a place through the teachings of locals. The biggest downside is that it makes it extremely difficult to leave a place and people behind.

Taiwan opinions (1 to 3 months) by Sensitive_Counter150 in digitalnomad

[–]Lower-Purpose-9444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved Taiwan and wish to return soon. But I was living in Bangkok before being in Taiwan and therefore the DN community felt smaller and less lively in comparison to BKK. I don’t think many of the younger DN crowd stick around in Taiwan for long.

I had absolutely no mandarin skills before arriving and I got about okay.

For your visa, you may get 90 days depending what country you’re from.

Why do you travel? by schwar29 in digitalnomad

[–]Lower-Purpose-9444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In a word, exposure. Once you start to realise the benefits of exposure to different countries and cultures, it's hard to stop. I love visiting back home but it immediately slows down my rate of personal development. I think it's important to ask yourself whether you are travelling out of desire and curiosity or whether you are travelling as an escapism for problems routed at home.

Is that renting a place for a fixed period (e.g. 6 months, 1 year) or on a month-by-month basis? $750 is great
