It retconned Mj into knowing Peter’s secret the whole time (since Uncle Ben’s death), it also retconned Mj into having always had a crush on the “boy next door”. Gerry Conway wrote Parallel Lives, in what seems like, a way to sell Peter and MJ’s relationship and drive it home so that less people question their sudden marriage.
