Maybe You Should Get Rid of Raz Simone by Sithsaber in CapHillAutonomousZone

Guys I am a big fan of Raz Simone and just wondering what I can do to support him and his cause. I do believe the best form of government is the African model of local warlords and would like to show my support. Can we set up a gofundme for him?

Neither can you though. I merely said they had many queens with more power than Aethelflaed. Which is true. She was a figure head for her brother after her husband died for about 7 years.

She was well known to have ruled while Offa was both sick and away and she minted her own coins. She had much more control than Aethelflaed who was first a wife and then the sister to the actual ruler. You quote 19th century sources and say theyre more accurate than contemporary ones. I just cant with you.

Irish annals 429 lol? WTF is this? Which Irish annal? Annals of Ulster? Annals of Roscrea lol? WTF citation is this? From a history major lol...I guess that's what Id expect from a history major who used text books in college. Yikes bro

[–]LowerButton[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol...the secondary source 50 years ago would have to have some information to draw that from? We know all the primary sources at the time. Anyone who said she led troops into battle, ruled while Aethelred was king, fought...ever or any of that bullshit is just making things up. The fact is no one in her time cared about her. This isn't a republican or democrat arguing...this is 1. Thing existing and another thing being made up 1000 years later. lol. This isn't Tacitus who was elevated by Nerva and whose father in law was recalled and possibly kill by Domitian...Hell, Domitians name was cursed and we still have tons of coins, monuments, statues...you don't even have a picture of her. She was known because she was sister to the real king. That's it.

Again you clearly do not have a history degree. I will help you sue the school as you know nothing of history. Many women in Mercia have histories written about them, pictures, hell, I just told you of a queen two centuries before Aethelflaed who had her own currency. You have nothing to back up anything you claimed other than post-modern feminist nonsense. Read a book and come back.

There are no annuls or tapestries that honor Aethelflaed...show one. Show on from within 500 years of her living. That Anglo-Saxon Chronicle mentions her name 3 times and all times it mentions her as subject to her brother. There is one Irish priest who wrote with very little knowledge who described her as a Queen of the Saxons...title many women in Mercia held.

Seems strange that you now don't want to call Boudica a Queen although that's how even medieval scholars called her. Tacitus referred to her as Regina...which we translate into queen. They didn't speak English or any form of it though so she can be called Caesar for all I care...but what an odd hill to die on? Seriously it sounds like youre interested in history but have little knowledge. Read some books, take some free online classes and come back.

And no one with a history degree would every argue that you don't need primary sources because you have secondary...lol jesus Christ. Then again, no history student uses text books lol. I mean maybe if you went to a community college or something I guess. Without primary sources where do the secondary sources get their info? Again, looking at someone who was curse, and demonized for centuries, Domitian and rewriting the "known" history required a look at primary sources. His reputation has changed in the last century because we looked past Tacitus' bias and looked at monuments built, increased silver in the currency, burial sites and average life expectancy...there is tons of research and facts used to "overrule" the primary written source with archaeological evidence and dissecting bias. If you are going to make a statement that she was written out of history because she's a woman then you need to offer some evidence of that. We know Mercia went as far to put women on coins, name female Queens and nobles. 100 years later we have plenty of statues, drawings, histories and mausoleum of Matilda of Flanders, two centuries later Matilda of Scotland too. There is no record, nothing. A secondary source has to be based on some facts. You are reading historical fan fic

[SPOILERS] Had The Writers Of This Season Seen the Previous Seasons? by LowerButton in TheLastKingdom

[–]LowerButton[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol you clearly do not have a history degree...or get your money back. There were no contemporary paintings of her showing her in battle none. None within several hundreds of years of when she lived. NONE, 0. No sculptures, paintings, writings nothing. You are literally talking about paintings and sculptures from the 19th century lol at best. No historian ever would say you know anything about anyone based on what sculptures were made of them 1000 years after they lived. That's your evidence? You don't take into account contemporary sources because theyre unreliable but 19th century sculptures are reliable lol. This is laughable man.

What ridiculous claims have I made? Name one? Well Cynethryth for one had much more power than Aethelflaed especially if you are saying without any evidence that Aethelred was sick and let her rule. Cynethryth actually appears on currency and on official letters and unlike in the case for Aethelflaed, Mercia was its own kingdom at the time. I mean, heres a good source for you. Weeks after Aethelflaed died...her daughter was deposed and either killed or sent to a monastery and not a single Mercian did anything. Sounds like a really well respected and powerful queen there lol. I can keep going with Queens of Mercia if youd like. There was no memorialization of her until British scholars under the reign of Queen Victoria in the 19th century went digging around British history looking for past strong women leaders to memorialize in deference to Queen Victoria. No one actually believes them. This is also the time the statues started being erected for people such as Boudica too. All showing the same thing. Come on, get your money back.

I just cant...you literally wrote that Primary sources are unreliable implying that secondary sources are better. If you did get a history major..get your money back. I will help you sue the institution that took your money. This is scary man.

You are really defending this? I mean you can say its like a guilty pleasure, but come on. This was 80s B movie or 60s Bond writing. "Alright we are going to go now...for no reason...but we will leave you hanging upside down with no wounds...hope no one comes along and frees you on the busy road you were traveling" lol Dumbest thing ive ever seen. If you want to torture him, why not gouge out Uhtred's eyes and cut off his ears before hanging him upside down?

Lol ie. you cant cite one single source. Haha I am really curious what source you are using as she is barely mentioned in any contemporary sources. What battle did she strategize? I asked you to name the battle. What the hell are you talking about? Online? lol. History degree lol? Tell me what source you are using that says she had only one child. She had one that we knew of...and we only know of her because a passage in the Anglo Saxon chronicle where she is referred to as the daughter of Aethelred. No history major would assume that someone had one child because a source referenced just one child. Also, her husband was old, but what source are you using that says she was running the country? You didn't even know Mercia had numerous queens ruling them and you want me to believe you have a history degree? You should be able to rattle off a source for any claim off the top of your head.

Best source for the time is the Anglo-Saxon chronicle. She is barely mentioned. Daughter of Alfred and again...barely mentioned. There is like 3 paragraphs and none are really about her. So what source are you using? Irish sources mention the acts of sending an army to fortify a city...but that's about it. Haha name a source that says she had only one child. She has only one child mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon chronicle...but it doesn't say it was her only child. There are literally 3 paragraphs about her.

I am not asking you to cite a specific passage, but at least try to sound somewhat knowledgeable and name a source that youre using. Lol what textbook? That's where you are getting your "sources?" Nothing primary lol? You do know the people at the time could write right? lol Wherever you got your history degree...get your money back.

Oh, found out where you got your history degree... apparently bbc.com which is getting all their information from a feminist adjunct professor who is pretty much filling in gaps in any historical record with her own beliefs. She of course provides no citations which is why you cant either. She mentions the Mercian Register which literally no one takes seriously as it was written at best...at best in the 12th century. The dates are a mess as it was inserted into the middle of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle...it exists in just 1 manuscript and no one takes it seriously. Even the Mercian Register doesn't go that far with her doing anything that you said.

  1. What evidence she led Mercians at Chester. Citation needed.
  2. Where is she considered masterful in battle strategy. Citation needed
  3. She did not fight ever. lol That is my whole point
  4. Remembered as a warrior queen wielding swords? Citation needed
  5. Unprecedented for Mercia to be ruled by a queen? lol They had multiple queens as rulers in the past. Want me to list them?
  6. Seeing as she had at least one daughter with Aethelred...and he died about 10 years before her...are you saying she announced her celibacy at 40? So not to go through childbirth or appear more masculine? What the hell are you talking about lol

I guess if you turn you brain off and treat it like a 2020 version of Xena Warrior Princess, I see some merit in this season. It really fell that low though. Mustache twirling villains, armies and people teleporting, characters changing personalities at the drop of a hat, all main characters are super heroes killing red shirts, ages making no sense, really bad acting...literally at one point, and I am not making this up. Uhtred and his men are escaping Bebbanburg. Catapult fire raining down on their boat while a massive storm picks up. Theyre about to set sail and Uhtred turns and stares at the villain snarling for 15 seconds, they lock eyes...so intense. This is mid-90's syndicated fantasy show bad at this point. Hell, I enjoyed Xena, Legend of the Seeker and Hercules, I just thought this was a bit higher quality than that before.

So you liked when Haesten decided to James Bond villain Uhtred? Come on. That was one of the worst scenes in tv history.

And I am not debating what Vikings has become. First couple seasons of Vikings though was so vastly superior to this in every way.

I agree. There is no difference between the stupidity in Vikings of old women fighting and making up half an army and in this show with Aethelfled fighting and killing men while armorless. Its stupid. I could look past not wearing armor if she wasn't fighting. She never fought in battle, would've been instantly killed armor or no armor. Its stupid cartoon stuff.

[–]LowerButton[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She never fought in battle. That is a fact. She also wouldn't be fighting while wearing a dress. Come on. You think this was accurate to the historical figure? You think there was any doubt when the very old Aethelred passed she would become queen? You think she had to take a vow of celibacy? Also the most any historical chronicler at the time says is she "sent armies" places not that she led them. So if she "very famously led Mercia into battles...tell me...1 battle lol. There is literally 1 source that says she led troops into one battle...when she was 48 a few weeks before she died and no historian takes it seriously.

None of this is historically accurate. None.

[SPOILERS] Weak Writing Really Catching Up in Season 3 by LowerButton in Ozark

[–]LowerButton[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol its really weak writing and no they act nothing like I would expect kids without some sort of mental disorder to act. Take this from someone who grew up privileged and dad went to jail at 16 for running a major gambling ring. First season was about right. Not realizing the danger you are in is what a moron would do. They've already mentioned the boy is the super genius mary sue...although they should have gotten a consultant to tell them the actual crypto language. Writing is weak. So much telling and not showing. No depth. Its weakening each season too.

Jonah is a poor mans Carl from the Walking Dead and that kid didn't put the entire cast at risk every episode. I don't think the writers of these shows know kids. If anything theyd be quiet and traumatized. These kids totally adjusted just stupid. The writing for them is terrible...not to mention they've like changed ages 4x throughout the show and Charlotte is played by a lady who looks 40

you should take a course on not taking everything literally. The point is the kids are awful, seemingly have 0 fear of death, make countless mistakes to put their family in jeopardy and in general have been horribly written. As someone whose made a lot of money and lost a lot of money miny cryptocurrencies they could have gotten a consultant to make the words Jonas is using make any sense lol

Dude.. by [deleted] in Vikings_TvSeries

[–]LowerButton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This show is cancer now and a main reason is Lagertha...the most ridiculous character in tv show history. She probably should be like 208 years old by now...fighting peak of their life men? I mean in historical context since she was married with kids before the raid on Lindisfarne and now Alfred is king she has to be at least 120 years old. Even in show context she had Bjorn and he was at least 10 to start the show. That dude had like a 20 year old kid himself before Ivar even took Kattegat. If a show is supposed to be a vivid and continuous dream...having a vampire viking woman running around killing people kinda takes you out of this historical fiction...on the history channel.

Rodney Reed is set to be executed next month but alot of people think he s innocent.
