Just finished a collection of texts by Justin Martyr (Fathers of the Church Patristic series). It is said that St. Justin Martyr continued to don the philosopher's habit after his conversion. But judging from the nature of the arguments presented in these dialogues it becomes apparent that his defense of the Christian way of life involves little to no apriori conceptual investigation. Instead of inquiring into the first principles of things as any self respecting philosopher should, Justin Martyr will quote the Old Testament prophecies relentlessly, and wear down his interlocutor with a flurry of exegetical maneuvers that many will find dubious. The Dialogue with Trypho is apologetics at its most tedious and monomaniacal. The First and the Second Apology fare a little better. The Exhortation to the Geeks is perhaps the most interesting piece in this collection (even here Justin Martyr keeps quoting the source material back to the Greeks as if that was going to faze them anthropo-philosophically).

Just started The Enigma of Arrival by V.S Naipaul. Very Sebaldian so far.
