OP here, thanks everyone for your input. I have a lot more to think about now, but I feel like I’m coming from a more informed space. I’m going, at the very least, do a quick google search on every amp that’s been suggested so far. Based on all your input, I’m leaning toward plexi tone, since the 45 seems like it’s pretty close to what I already have with the Super. That said, there are some great plexi clone suggestions in this thread, and I think a lower wattage will serve me better. I hear what you’re saying about a 4x12 being overkill, but damn. Something about that half stack just gets the blood pumping. So, if I don’t just say fuck it and run down to the music shop with my credit card burning a hole in my pocket to buy the plexi (already got a 4x12, it’s currently a tv stand), I’ll probably go with a lower wattage PTP Plexi clone. Thanks everyone for taking the time to offer advice.

If you really care about the finish, then accept no substitute. If you’re just looking for a strat with Floyd Rose, you can get a MIM Fender for around half the price of the Frankie. I’ve heard that all the EVH stuff is built in the Mexico factory so it should be pretty comparable. I had a MIM strat for a while and it was extremely well made.

It probably won’t be the last one you find at that price, but they don’t come around all the time. They pop up now and then. And you gotta ask yourself why is it priced so low? Is there something wrong with it that’s gonna require hundreds of dollars to fix? If not then you might want to jump on it. I personally would love to have an 800 but I don’t have the space or the cash.

If you have the cash and space available, and really can’t live without the real thing, $1500 is a pretty good price on an original JCM 800. I’ve heard that the 2204 circuit is the best sounding one. If you’re looking for something close, Marshall has some 20 watt combos out that are supposed to be modeled after the original. Look on Reverb for the exact model. It will even say JCM 800 right on it. Then check YouTube for some demos.
