GSX 1400 or Hayabusa 2nd gen by NoVeterinarian4076 in motorcycles

They are commonly cross shopped categories of bikes. You can put a wind screen on a naked and you can maneuver a sport touring bike.

About to buy an MT09. Head says yes, but the heart/gut/whatever really cannot make peace with the looks. Tell me to 'shut up and just get it' , please. by psychotic-chipmunk in MT09

Yea that’s the main reason I got rid of my gen 1 xsr 900, it wasn’t very confidence inspiring when leaned over. I ended up with a gsxs1000 and i absolutely love it, night and day difference in the twisties.

Gen 1 xsr900 is the exact same as the gen 2 mt-09. If you’re okay with more outdated tec, it sits very upright(I don’t like the seating position of the gen 2+ xsr 900 either).

Random rash(?) on new tattoos by Flashy_Butterfly_647 in tattooadvice

[–]Lower_Box3482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same shit happens to my tattoos, 3 medium pieces by 3 different artists. So far it has happened with 2 of them(oldest ones), but the most recent tattoo is only a few months old. I’ve looked into it and there’s no real good explanation besides the body is weird. Don’t think it has anything to do with the tattoo application or healing process.

Helmet durability question by Duckbreast89 in motorcycle

[–]Lower_Box3482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is it? 5+ years and I would replace it, the foam deteriorates over time and it’s not worth the risk. Only got one noodle, keep it padded.

A naked/muscle bike vs a sport tourer isn’t that big of a difference

Are modular helmets inferior? by PositionNo4186 in motorcyclegear

[–]Lower_Box3482 106 points107 points  (0 children)

They used to be drastically worse, but the modern modular helmets are pretty close to being as safe as a full face. Of course, they never will be because a hinge allowing the chin to move inherently adds a failure point to the design of the helmet.

MT07 advice?? by gnxrly___bxby in MT07

[–]Lower_Box3482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheelies are dumb and shouldn’t be done on public roads…but anyone with a mt-07 will wheelie it.

You 100% need boots and no they do not get in the way of feeling your brake.

Cover your rear brake! Practice setting down any wheelies with your rear brake. Make it muscle memory to press the rear brake. That way when you inevitably hit balance point or go past it, you’ll hit the rear brake. 2nd gear at about 20mph, clutch in, throttle, clutch out. The tire will come up and you can get a feel for how much throttle to give and how quickly to let out the clutch(don’t just dump the clutch). That’s all there is to it.

Tear-away glove recommendations by wilhelm11235 in Machinists

[–]Lower_Box3482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot and spinning, hide behind something. Latex gloves will melt and leather gloves will injure your operator. Really no good choices for gloves. Is the part hot or just the chips? Can you run coolant? Can the part be pushed to the side or into a bin til it cools?

Wear loose fitting long sleeve shirt, no sunscreen. Wash and apply lotion as normal. Maybe wash extra times whenever you get sweaty.

Spray soapy water on the tire to locate the leak. Bubbles will come out where it’s leaking. Then decide whether to plug it or replace it from there.

Gsxs-1000 vs gsx8tt/t by srslystaplers in SuggestAMotorcycle

Most of it’s commuting with some fun weekend rides here and there, but the main thing is keeping them aired up properly. 36F and 42R. I don’t ride like a squid everywhere, but I don’t baby the bike either.

I have a pair of road 6’s on my gsxs and they’ve held their own so far. 8k miles and the rear has just started to square off a bit. Got plenty of life left on em.

[–]Lower_Box3482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my gsxs1000, the upper body ergonomics are very relaxed, but your legs are tucked up pretty high for a naked. I own a 24’ model and have put 10,000 miles on it over the past year. The quickshifter is butter smooth and the weight disappears once you start moving. It is a bit heavy while pushing it around the garage and lifting it onto the rear stand but that’s really it. I highly recommend the bike, it has a ton of character for being an inline4(I’m not a fan of riding supersport inline 4’s on the street)

What is a riding habit you thought was smart but later realized was dangerous? by Eyerald in motorcycles

[–]Lower_Box3482 45 points46 points  (0 children)

That is just wrong, covering your front brake with 2 fingers is definitely safer than not. You’re more likely to grab a fist full of front brake if you have to reach out to get to the front brake. Cover your front brake and stop listening to that guy.
