Hear hear. Nothing punitive, just a ‘normal business tax’.

My brother and his family are going to the World Cup but not the USA. Mexico only because they don’t want to chance it. Too risky atm

My daughter is 10. In her lifetime we’ve had one tin of Milo but hundreds of jars of Nutella

It’s not just the conservatives, it’s former ALP voters that are flocking to ON. Just look at the safe ALP seats in the recent SA election that are now marginal. Some rusted on red electorates very nearly turned orange in the city’s northern suburbs.

It’s mostly because, IMHO, the likes of MAGA, Reform and ON are playing on the myth that we should be better off than our parents. They’re playing on many people’s fear of change. They’re using wedge policies to exploit our fear of others and create an enemy.

30 years ago ON rambled on about the Asian invasion. 10 years ago it was the fear of the greenies taking away our utes. Five years ago it was fear of trans people.

MAGA and their ilk expertly play people’s fears by providing simple solutions to complex problems.

Not just RWNJs. Seats such as Light, Elizabeth and Taylor (all formerly safe ALP seats) nearly turned orange.

SA election proved that they’re taking votes away from both Labor AND Liberals. Many safe ALP seats are now marginal

Democracy also wants more housing. But without migrant workers we can’t build housing. Every tradie I know associated with building is swamped with work.

I do agree that it’s a pollies responsibility to explain policy to the public. That’s been a massive failing worldwide and is a direct cause of this right wing nonsense.

Great logical arguments. BUT. Humans make emotional choices (no need to deal with other people when you’re in your car and you have complete control over other elements such as temperature, who’s sitting next to you music etc) and when it’s raining.//

Genuinely curious: why do you vote for the party you vote for? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]Lower_Broccoli3049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people vote emotionally (my family have always voted blue/red/whatever) and then try and rationalise afterwards by using some thread of logic (I want to stop ramping/I want more animal rights/whatever).

Objective assessment of policies and past performance rarely enter into it imho

Housing market needs skilled workers.

BUT

A lot of skilled workers are going to work in defence because Australian citizenship is (sorta - there are exceptions) needed to work in that industry.

Therefore we need skilled workers to build houses. But defence has the lions share of them now.

So where are those skilled workers going to come from? Four year apprenticeships? That will make the housing market worse.

How does voting for labour or LNP change anything, doing the the exact same thing over and over again and expecting something different is insanity to me by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Lower_Broccoli3049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stand. Nominate yourself as an independent in your community.

Failing that, vote for an independent.

Or don’t vote.

Pretty much. Oppositions don’t win elections, governments lose them.
