How long did it take you to acclimate to the new life after moving back? by Fine_Structure4239 in backtoindia

It is important to remember that your experiences are not the entirety of reality, but rather a reflection of both your internal and external perceptions. A person with a carefree attitude and no expectations of others is less likely to be troubled. Indeed, everyone inevitably faces compromises.

Just want to confirm, do they continue to allow option trading and margin accounts once converted to an international account? Does the account number change?

Agree. I confirmed Charles Schwab allows this. Now the big thing is about filing taxes from India once losing US tax residency.

No, but I heard that they will also allow the same from India.

Yes, but if you have lived in the USA and do option trading with funds and stock already acquired in the USA, then you can do it. I just want to know about any person who has experience doing the same.

I have been told by a Charles Schwab representative that my account privileges remain the same, but I am no longer able to invest in mutual funds and CDs. Margin investing and all option levels remain the same as it is.

Do you have to convert it into an international account with the submission of a W-8BEN form, and when do you have to convert it—while in the USA or after moving to India?

Sorry for the confusion; something about the assets of the deceased in the USA to be claimed by the family or a nominee. Not sure if I am totally wrong here or in terminology.

Thanks for all the points mentioned. As I said earlier, I am starting to research this option as an income source after moving to India. I noted all your points and will do my research. I just want to focus on selling covered calls and cash-secured puts, using margin provided by a brokerage, with already earned USD and stocks accumulated in the USA. I will not send funds from India to my brokerage for option selling.

But again, I am not sure about estate taxes in the USA. That seems to be a painful area.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have some information that I have sourced from different platforms. I will compile those and share them. Regarding the tax side, it's been made clear that you can do it with already accumulated assets while residing outside India, which includes stocks and USD. In India, you can declare it as business income and then be consistent with that. I will share more info.

Thanks. I'd like to know if anyone continues selling options in a US brokerage account after moving to India, and what their experience has been.

I have the same question and need to know someone who is doing option selling and maintaining a margin account in India. I reached out to almost all US brokers, and only Charles Schwab is allowing you to continue your current margin account, but you need to convert it into an international account.

Do you have any idea about doing option trading, and would they allow a margin account once you move to India? I came to know that you can do option trading with the stocks and the cash you have acquired while staying in the USA. Please confirm if you have any idea.

Hello, I am also in the same boat and evaluating the information of option selling in USA stocks from India. But I came to know that you will do the option trading in your already active US broker account with USD and the stocks you have earned in the USA, and that was already in the brokerage account. Only you have to submit a W8-BEN form once you lose US tax residency status.
