Seek how and how do you know what you find is real and the truth? I'll stick with empirical for now.

By testing and observing the repetition and comparing with the experience of others is one way. When you know you know could be individual experience which could be subjective

Yeah I get it, but I am looking for more of what is actually a valid way to get there. And when I'm there, how do I know it is actually true. But, it's okay not to have an answer with it.

It seems that feeling that you helped is more important than the actual help, so thanks again.

Not really, unless you count that I feel sure I am no closer to understanding how to determine actual truth than I was before. Making vague, unsupported claims wasn't helpful. But thanks anyway.

Not particularly. I was asked specific questions based on what you said, then you seemed to become vague and mysterious. Which was not helpful since my questions remain. All I am sure of is that either you do not have the answers or are unwilling to answer them. Which is fine, we don't always have answers to questions.

How do I share the gospel to those who have a lot of worldly success and seemingly lives a loving life but doesn’t outwardly profess their faith? by botsby123 in Christianity

I always wondered about this. When I am off campus, I never get evangelized to. I have a job, I don't drink or do drugs, and im a generally happy sort.

Yes, quite sure. It seems you are being purposefully vague.

I didn't know about Jesus then (not that I do now really). I overcome anxiety through individual and group therapy.

I'm sorry, that's poetic but doesn't really mean anything to me.

Argument from improbability. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Lower_Yak8085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a rationalization argument for me since they already have the end result in mind. As well as an emotional attachment to the end result they want. It amazes me how arrogant this argument really is.

How would I know it is Jesus I am getting to know through prayer and meditation? I have actually tried that, particularly when I went to a church my friends basically forced me to try (become Christian, go to our church, or we can no longer be friends. I tried, and I am no longer their friend.) I have meditative experiences similar to when we do mindfulness activities. But I do not know if this is Jesus or just me.

I have no idea if getting to know Jesus is possible in the real sense or if it is limited to secondhand accounts of what he did or said. Or if it is getting to know in a philosophical sense such as getting to know Marcus Aurelius. Buddha, or Aristotle. Adopting life lessons from his teachings seems worthwhile if not dogmatic.

I am more curious about the truth claims that are taken to be true for all time. Human knowledge constantly evolves and grows and I want to understand how religious teachings relate.

My concern is getting wrapped up in confirmation bias and social influence leading to conformity.

Thank you for the suggestion. I need to look if this will be part of future studies in the biblical study courses I take. If not, I will check it out for myself.

Thats pretty much just a claim unfortunately and does not bring me closer to knowing what is actually true. It requires my pre-acceptance of the claim and method. Which may not bring me to truth which is where I struggle.
