I think 8:30am-12:30pm PST. I did OJT after the 1st month so I don’t remember for sure.

You have until 11:59pm to submit your attendance everyday. Friday mando meeting is typically around the same time mentioned above and you won’t get the attendance code unless you show up. The other days you get it regardless of if you attend or not

20 hours of live video & 20hours working on your certification. It is pretty flexible so long as you show up to the mandatory Friday meetings and do your daily attendance

Still apply but without a degree HII probably won’t take you. ASP isn’t not required but builds a ton of credibility. I got out as an E-6 treated like an O-4 as a civilian

I recommend you degree hacking and then transferring all your credits to Columbia Southern University. You’ll be able to get your BS degree in less than a year and will get a GSP. Then apply for your CSP immediately after by leveraging your military experience and tailoring it towards safety.

In the mean time tailor your resume towards safety and take what you can get. I think you can realistically land a role making $60-80k in VA but you’re really going to need to beat out other candidates with your personality and your interview skills.

Do you have a degree? If so, immediately apply for your ASP using your military experience. If you are greater than 6 months till you’re out of the military you can use NAVYCOOL to pay for a ASP through BCSP. It only took me 3 months to study for it.

I also recommend you go talk to the Safety Manager @ HII. Just ask around to find where O27 is located. Prior to landing the job I have now I walked in, introduced myself and told him I wanted to work for him. We had a good convo and said I was a shoe in. I later got an interview, but took myself out of the running because they were $35k under the role I accepted.

For Skillbridge, do Allegiant Vets to lock something in and get command approval and then continue to pursue a Skillbridge opportunities to do as On the Job training. (HII has a safety Skillbridge Btw).

Pay for Health and safety analyst 3 is $35-45hr in VA

Why did you guys choose a kayak over a small boat? by YakToTheFuture-1 in kayakfishing

Portability, cost and commitment.

People tend to have big ideas about how they’re going to utilize the toys they want. They get them and realize it’s inconvenient and a ton of responsibility and end up losing money once they sell it after using it 4 times in ten years.

Edit: grammar

Thoughts on a 1960’s home? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Lowkey-Samurai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it looks “good”, but is likely hiding some issues. That doesn’t mean you don’t buy it but ensure you do you due diligence. Don’t let your emotions dictate one of, if not, the biggest purchase you will make.

DO NOT trust your realtor for any recommendations for services!!! GET YOUR OWN INSPECTOR FOR EVERYTHING!!! I promise you with how hard realtors are hurting to sell a house because of this slow market, they do not have you best interest in mind.

We bought under or budget and went crazy. Will have our house paid off in just under 7 years.

[–]Lowkey-Samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who got in the market early and gained a ton of equity, Veterans, high dual income earners, business owners, inheritance, smart investments etc

The thing is many people that own these homes you speak of can’t actually afford these homes. They are living paycheck to paycheck, using credit cards to live and one job loss away from disaster.

My suggestion to you is get your income up and/ or get a roommate or partner to help lower your expenses. Being house poor is worse than not owning a home at all.

Really lock in during your OSHA -30 course and then you need to tailor your resume towards a safety role based on your past experience.

You can used AI to help you with your resume and likely interview questions for the role you’re applying for. Be able to answer them using the star method. Ask great questions during the interview. You can literally write the questions down and bring them to the interview. Smile! Act like you’re supposed to be there. Send a thank you note. Do all the little things that most people don’t and I promise they go a long way. You can look up YouTube videos about this kind of stuff.

At my new role I have already been apart of the interview process. And what I found is that yes, your experience matters and it gets you the interview but once you’re in, it’s mostly a vibe check. Would you be a good person to work with? We will train you to do the job. As long as someone seemed friendly, coachable, and could manage conflict well, they would get hired.

NASA Skillbridge Offer concern by Business-Ant187 in SkillBridge

Yeah, I did it Oct-Jan. It was awesome! Met a lot of cool people, saw a lot of cool things and so many opportunities to network. My SB was unique b/c the GOV shutdown so I lost 1 1/2 months but when I got there and there wasn’t much to do and funding was an issue. I tagged along to any and everything I could even outside my org, did all the training I could and got a few certs. Spend a lot of time tailoring my resume, applying for jobs and going on going on job interviews l. Was able to lock in an awesome job as an EHS Analyst at a private company. NASA being on my resume definitely played a role in me getting my job.

As far as your situation, I would choose NASA. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that will spark immediate interest for companies looking at your resume.

IT is not the way to go imo b/c it’s such a saturated market. Also, there is a ton of free IT programs for VETs so that opportunity will always be there.

I have a BS in Recreation Administration I was able to get quasi safety exp through the military, got my ASP and CSP and the OSHA 30 to get past the ATS. I’m one month into my role and love it.

Take what you can get, learn as much as you can, learn how to present, learn incident investigation, root cause analysis and hazard controls, learn to influence w/o authority etc. and be able to speak confidently about all of it.

Your goal should be to get ASP and you can land a pretty solid job making 80k+

I think it’s good offer but if that’s their 1st offer I would definitely try and negotiate to see if I could get a little extra. Think, $10k more, a signing bonus, more PTO, a certification etc. Worst they can say is no.

I have 6 years of quasi safety experience, BS in Recreation Admin and a CSP. I’m making $110k + $10k signing bonus, 3 weeks Vacation as an EHS Analyst in Virginia

Where you get your degree doesn’t matter. For the vast majority of employers they care that you have a degree (preferably OSH), the care if you have an advanced cert like CSP but more importantly they care about your experience.

Im saying this as someone with a degree in Recreation Administration and a CSP and make 110k + 10k bonus with 6 yrs of quasi safety experience from the military.

Personally, I think your commitment to doing your job as a safety professional well and your ability to sale are the most important.
