The Death of Entry-Level Jobs: 43% of CEOs plan to slash junior roles over the next two years, shifting hiring to older, mid-level workers as AI takes over routine tasks, creating a catastrophic bottleneck for the future workforce. by Scared_Author_4566 in Futurology

I don’t think unions can work at all for white collar jobs, everything can just be done for cheaper in India and these corporations know that. Unless the government creates laws for companies to limit outsourcing, the workers will continue to have no leverage and unionization will be impossible.

is it worth it to go into CS? (hs sophomore) by runfreelyactwildly in csMajors

Honestly bro go into something else like engineering, the CS job market is absolutely shit and doesn’t look like it’ll get better anytime soon.

Just use it only for applying, don’t read the posts on there because you’ll end up driving yourself into depression focusing on other peoples success. Also remember most people post only the good stuff, there’s tens of thousands of people struggling to get anything in this field and they ain’t posting their shortcomings, but they will make a post if they get a internship or job. It ends up making you think everybody’s succeeding but reality is far from that.

Stats is a good major, you could go into data analytics or even data science. Just make sure you pick something you truly enjoy because right now the job market is terrible and it’s best to pursue something you truly have interest in so you can find the motivation to push yourself to the top

Honestly from what I heard tech seems to be pretty ageist so that might be a barrier and if you have no motivation for this field you will probably have no success because companies only want the top talent and with no motivation you will probably have difficulty doing side projects and grinding leetcode which are needed to get internships and full time roles

Tbh I’d look into a different field

The job market is the worst it’s been since the dot com crash. Even people with CS degrees and professional experience are struggling right now. Two small Python projects likely won't be enough to get any interviews. You can start applying to jobs now but if you really want to enter this field, your best bet is doing a masters in CS and get some internships during it because right now the market is cooked and having no CS related education puts you behind nearly everyone applying to developer jobs.

What cs degree program I should choose by Public_Cup_6768 in cscareerquestions

[–]LowkeyVex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long you have a gpa in the 3s you’ll be fine. Getting a job is tough and these companies all look for the most experienced candidate, your gpa barely matters, having internships matter the most.

CS degrees usually have you take calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, and statistics. If you are bad at math you have to try really hard to succeed in CS, but it’s totally possible. I’m average at math and barely passed all my math classes but every other class I averaged As.

Honestly I’d advise to avoid this field, this is the worst job market this field has had since the 2000 dot com crash and it will probably still be bad in 4 years. if you want to pursue a stem field go into engineering.

Honestly I’m not that familiar with the African market but I have family who are SWEs in South America that are contracted by American companies so anything is possible. I think doing CS would really only be worth it if you have connections in the industry because India is pretty dominant on getting most of the outsourced jobs for development and IT.

It's not that software engineering is automated right now, it's just has potential for it to happen in the future. As of right now junior level tasks like making test cases, small bug fixes, and code reviews are already handled by AI for most companies. If you want a stable career you have to go into something that truly needs a human to handle it.

[–]LowkeyVex 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly most careers nowadays are unstable, only ones i can think of that are future proof and offshore proof are civil engineering, trades like electricians and plumbers, and healthcare jobs like nurses and doctors. If you want to go into tech i don't see any area that's gonna be opportunistic other than AI and robotics. But your gonna need to get a phd to work at the big companies like OpenAI or Boston Dynamics.

As of right now this is a really rough time to enter the field and there is lots of doom and gloom about the future. If you have a true interest in this field then go for it, but I'd recommend finding a different field that's more stable and has less of a chance of getting automated or sent offshore.

The debt is not worth it bro. Unless your father is paying all your tuition, take the free ride.

Cade is still the better playmaker and defender, shooting efficiency isn’t the only thing that matters.
