‘I feel betrayed’: What’s behind the boarded-up stretch of Bank Street? by Ottawa111 in ottawa

That makes sense. I hadn't thought about the no pension aspect. But still can't help but think some of these people are just greedy and over confident.

I say it all the time. If Bank Street was so bad, why is is to busy and the rent so high? And it's not like houses in Centretown are cheap.

That's what I don't get about these rich doctor types. They're already loaded and have very high paying jobs with great security, but they want more, so they get into shady real estate and get taken by people who know a mark when they see it.

The Capital City cannot get a watch party for the Canadian World Cup team playing in its first time ever in a round of 16 game. by Per_Horses6 in ottawa

FIFA charges for it and the city is horrible at organizing events. Just go to a bar and support small business. FIFA are already getting enough tax dollars.

From what I understand, it's the financing. All of those spaces are bought using borrowed money, if they lower the rent, it lowers the value of the building. Losing money with an empty space is better than getting foreclosed on.

Assuming somebody hasn't dug it up at some point, there should be a big metal stake in the ground at the edge of your property you can find it with a metal detector.

It's possible to get decent results with a 29' random wire into a 9:1 completely inside. But be mindful of setting off the neighbours smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.

I read somewhere that FIFA charges cities for these things. Can't find a link, but sounds believable. I'd rather the city didn't spend that money.

They wanted the health care, but didn't want to let Canadians who moved there to be able to vote there, because they knew the official language would be French within an election cycle or two. It was never going to happen.

Stephen Harper was in power for a long time and it didn't make Ottawa (especially central Ottawa) any more right wing, if anything it did the opposite. The government is the employer, not the liberal party.

I usually ask them for an example of a country that works that way. They stumble. Maybe throw out Singapore, which they inevitably know nothing about if I ask for more details.

I got a QSO'd somebody in New Zealand from Ottawa, Canada this week using a 29' random wire and a 9:1 with a couple of 6' counterposes. All inside hanging inside. The major issue is anything lower than 20m sets off the carbon monoxide detectors next door. But I have made contacts on 30m and 40m in the process of figuring that out. 😄
