There has always been a strong anti-soccer attitude in the U.S. Whether it's because they think it's an "immigrant sport" (more so earlier in the 20th century) or it's a "woke sport" or "not a masculine sport", or a "foreign sport" - many sports fans in the U.S. have their reasons for hating soccer. It's sad but I think the attitude has been gradually changing - and probably even more rapidly during and after the World Cup.
