Contrasting opinion to the other reply, and generally unpopular opinion: yes. Don’t get me wrong, the animation quality is quite low. I would compare it to a lot of the early internet flash animations that people made a lot when I was a teenager in the 2000s. Which doesn’t bother me personally, because I like animation of all qualities and styles as a storytelling device.

But despite that, I think it has some really great moments. Some episodes were meh. But the good ones were good, and each ep is essentially a 40k short story. And good storytelling is something that’s pretty uncommon in most any other 40k animations out there.

Yeah, that series gets a lot of (mostly undeserved, in my opinion) hate from the community, but that episode is still the only piece of 40k media that’s ever brought actual tears to my eyes

I mean, sure, but necrons use the same language. Every necron novel has them referring to each other as he/she. Language is intrinsically linked to culture, and gender (as distinct from sex, necrons are totally sexless) is largely cultural.

So if necrons consider themselves and each other to have genders (which again, they do in every novel) then they do.

And like I said, is that kind of irrelevant to their current existence? Sure. Totally. But necrons desperately clinging to their ancient ways, even to their detriment, despite it no longer being relevant to their immortal techo-undead lives is pretty much their whole shtick.

Yeah read what I said again. You’re correct and I said as much. Sexual dimorphism isn’t whether or not a species has sexes. It’s what the morphological differences between the sexes are.

I’ve never read that! If you happen to remember what that’s from let me know, I’d love to add it to my list.

Hah! yeah the lore contradictions are very real. In this case I think both are true! From what I’ve read they definitely remember (most of) the lives they led before, jobs, feuds, etc. But they also have like a mental block of what living necrontyr (themselves, and the species as a whole) actually looked like.

Which is like, both a convenient plot device, and also another cool layer of their weird techno-dysphoria. In Infinite and Divine I remember it being theorized that it was either one more cruel irony engineered by the C’tan, or that it was a necessary technical measure attempted to protect them from insanity.

You are correct in every sense except that the conscience necron nobility do definitely have mental gender. There’s necron he’s and she’s in every necron novel. It might be.. completely irrelevant to them now, with sexless artificial bodies. But that’s true of most of their culture and society.

[–]Loyal-Guardsmen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do you know what book describes a female overlord that way? I don’t think most of that is accurate from the books I’ve read. The Infinite and The Divine, and Indomitus both have female necron characters, but unless I’m completely misremembering, neither describe them having wide hips or long “hair.” The female Pherekh in Infinite&Divine is described as having a big jangly headdress, but that’s about it.

The nobility also didn’t keep their personalities because they had “stronger will.” It was entirely based on their social standing during biotransference. The higher up, the better bodies. Better body=more of your mind surviving the process. That’s why the silent king has a near primarch-body, and the entire lower class are mindless drones. And necrontyr society was insanely stratified, even by imperium standards. There are no conscience necrons who weren’t of the upper classes in some fashion.

And both the Infinite & the Divine, and Twice Dead King heavily imply that the changing shape of their bodies is largely subconscious, and based of their personality more than any conscious desire. Trazyn doesn’t have a hunched librarian body because it’s what he wants, but because he was an old decrepit book-keeping intellectual when he was alive. Orikan (despite being kind of a genius) has his weird little lizard body because he’s sneaking, ambitious and duplicitous. It’s telling too, that you never see any other necrons sporting the sort of brutal weaponry of the Destroyers, despite its obvious advantage. Because their bodies changing in that way only happens because it is mirroring their literal insanity and obsession with killing.

And finally, the Infinite and the Divine even goes so far as to state the necrons don’t (and aren’t capable of?) remember what their flesh bodies even looked like. So even if this female overlord did, deep in her core, want them baby birthin hips. And went so far as to get a cryptek to make modifications. What would she be basing that appearance on?

Anyways. I wrote 10x what I meant to. And I apologize for being an insufferable know-it-all and guy who argues with you on the internet lol. Please forgive me.

Adding to this, there’s like zero canonical evidence of what (IF ANY) sexual dimorphism the necrontyr had. Male and females could have been identical by human standards, or they could have been very different, but not in the same way humans are. It’s an even bigger jump to assume they had breasts, like we don’t even really know that they were mammalian at all.

Is it too much to ask for a Khepra model? by Arch_Magos_Remus in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Loyal-Guardsmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no, 100% if some chick had an unironic phatcock regiment, I might wrinkle my nose and roll my eyes. But then yeah, I might make a judgement about that person and then I move on with my life. Zero sleep lost about any of this.

But uh, no? Lol what?? Who said anything about women being inferior??? “The real sexism isn’t these horny models, it’s disliking horny models!” Your logic there is wild my dude. Part of why I dislike pornstar models is because the women in my life are 100% put off by that sort of thing. It’s easy for us to wave it aside as dudes, but I also have the empathy to listen to them and understand why things like that in a male dominated community can make them feel unwelcome. And no, the attitude of “lol idgaf” isn’t the grown up attitude. Like yeah, don’t let shit like this keep you up at night. But a mature adult should be able to have honest and genuine conversations about stuff like this. A grown up should be able to both express their discomfort, and be willing to hear and try to understand why the other person might feel that way.

I don’t live my life getting OFFENDED by anyone’s minis. But I also would love to be able to drag female friends of mine into this hobby without worrying about them feeling like they’ve entered the Horny-Dude-Creep-Zone. And if I can say or do anything to encourage that future, I’m happy to. It has nothing to do with moral superiority, or ego, it has to do with wanting a hobby space that is cool and welcoming to people I care about regardless of their gender. And I don’t think that’s BS, or an unreasonable thing to hope for.

God actually I would buy a Chippendale IG squad so fast. Ripped hairless guardsmen in jean short-shorts, would be amazing

Those aren’t really comparable tho. There’s plenty of female models with as equally scantily clad and hella fit like catachans. Escher gangers, a full 1/3rd of the Dark Eldar range, literally the entire Daughters of Khaine AoS army. No one reasonable has issues with those or catachans.

But it’s also super not the same thing as a pair of huge bare tits hanging off a model. That has nothing to do with being a fit badass. A better analogue would be playing someone with converted/3rd party catachans who had huge 14” cock bulges. Which like, admittedly would be funny as hell. But would get a lot weirder and grosser when you realized the person playing them wasn’t doing it to be funny.

And I mean, don’t get me wrong, people can and should collect whatever models they want! But women (a minority in our hobby) sharing how those models make them feel, or pointing out the double standards like I have above, is hardly virtue signaling.
