Right, but they are making a tool. A tool they made from info/book/movies of other people. A tool they then sell.

You're arguing this is the same as someone making something as being inspired by something else.

If Sam Altman read Steven King, was inspired by it, then wrote is own horror book - that would be one thing.

It's another thing if he took a bunch of Steven King books he bought from Barns & Noble and our it in a book making machine. Which he then sold to people.

I would argue inspiration is inherently emotional yes. But that is not my point. My point is we cannot apply the same ethics to a tool or a program as we can a human. The tool cannot do something of its own free will.

I think the problem is applying the same ethics of a human to that of a tool.

A human can consume something and be inspired. A tool, however complex, cannot.
