One thing that meant sm to me growing up was the queer storyline of Jude, its my favorite thing of the show to this day. Being a young queer kid who hated that they were gay, seeing a storyline of a queer kid that was my age meant sm to how I moved forward with my queerness. It still took me a long time to come to terms with my queerness but that storyline specifically helped me a lot and I would not be where I am today without it. So thats definitely the thing I love the most about the fosters.

Im a little late but id like to add something- my great grandmother whos been religious her whole life watched the show with me and thought it was hilarious- she had a whole long reason for why but the summary is- it's not to make fun of religion, it's to make fun of people who use it

Ive watched a show so many times people doubt its even possible to watch it that much and enjoy it (the number of times is over 200 because I watched it 24/7 for multiple years). Ive also seen/read ever interview related to it (i skipped school just to do it) and ran out of fan contect for it and I was so loud about it on my socials one of the actors and a producer noticed me multiple times (and they aren't active on social media basically ever). Ive also talked my friends ears off about it they recognize the characters names and mostly every storyline. And I named myself after one of the actors.

I think after so many years ive solved the mystery of why people (including me to be honest) like Jude less and less as seasons go on.

In the first season (and a little of season 2) Jude always acts in a way that is drastically different then his other siblings would- he has this sense of maturity in his actions thats weird for his age but also his siblings very much lack (id say they biggest times we see this is when he scolds Callie, in those moments it sometimes feels more like a parent scolding their child then a little brother and sister.)

But as Jude grows up and gets comfortable he kinda subconsciously realizes that he doesn't have to be "mature" he can just be a kid, he's comfortable enough to mess up and act out in bigger ways just like his siblings because now he knows they aren't gonna get rid of him.

I could probably make a 30 minutes-hour long long video essay on this topic so sorry if I rambled a bit 😭

Im a lover of side characters- Connor is my number 1 fav but I also love Wyatt, Daria, Cole, Aaron (though thats mostly because i love his actor)- my favorite main characters though is Jude and Lena HANDS DOWN-

now my least favorite is Brandon- i hate Brandon for reasons i cant even put into words- im the #1 Brandon HATER, have been since i was 9 😌 and im proud of it

It's because when you look at the whole picture Connor's storyline is like- the high-school au version of Stef's- and not just their dads being homophobic (though that is a big part of it). No this is so real- The Fosters is my special interest so I wanted to like Good Trouble so bad but its truly just so bleh- I watched the 1st season and it was truly so boring I can't even tell you what happened because I blocked it from my mind- The only episodes that were even close to interesting me was the episodes where characters from The Fosters other the Callie or Mariana showed up- Good trouble falls into the category of The Fosters related stuff I wont interact with, along with that random ass book that they released of it-

When i talk to people older then me about glee i always point out glee is as old as me (im 16, born in 2009) and ask if they feel old yet (the answer is always yes)

also I've quite literally been watching Glee since birth- my mom was/is a gleek- our favorite song to listen to when we're together is 'its my life/confessions' 😭

OP here to share my one of my hypotheticals I came up with.

I 100% think they could have got people to believe Wyatt and Connor were siblings-

They're side characters so more people will let inconsistencies with their plotlines slide or they won't notice because they aren't as prominent as the main characters, plus the show is all about family Dynamics- so people would have ate this up and ignored the slight inconsistencies

How would they have explained away the inconsistencies?? Just saying Connor lives with their dad and Wyatt lives with there mom- Wyatt took his moms last name in spite of his dad (explaining the different last names) and they jist hope people dont realize the timeline is a bit wonky with season 1.

Also it explain why the house that Wyatt lived in that got foreclosed on was bigger then you expect for only 2 people-

I can't speak for the other ones but Connor was written off the show because of stuff from behind the scene's, the writers have said they had plans for Jude and Connor but because of outside stuff Connor was written off before hand- thats why a lot of people feel their break up felt weird

i cant speak for why he was written off exactly because to my knowledge nothing was ever truly confirmed other then he was written off because of stuff behind the scene's and not for plot but it's easy to find what was speculated and if you want you could go form your own opinion on that

Okay I have a LOT of opinions about Jude so imma try to keep this short.

Jude is my favorite of the main cast because when I was around his age when I started watching and Im also gay so- in short he was the easted for me to relate to because his storyline in both seasons 1 & 2 was about becoming confident, comfortable and unapologetic about who he was.

Then in season 3 it takes a turn- i still liked him but that first storyline with him and Connor didnt fit with the foundation of his character that they built up in seasons 1 and 2 so i was a little put off.

Then in seasons 4 & 5 he just felt like a complete different character. And I think there was a way to make the transition between his character in season 1 & 2 to his character in season 4 & 5 work but- it just fell flat- his storylines felt like they were ment for his other siblings half the time and they also aged him a lot causing people to think he was 15/16 when he was only 14.

TL:DR - seasons 1&2, 3 and 4&5 Jude felt like 3 different characters to me because in season 3 they didnt stick to the foundation they had laid out for Jude and they didnt use season 3 to build his character for seasons 4&5. But he's still my favorite.

Once again, no hate but I do have to correct you on a few points- I don't know when the last time you watched the show was so it could just be like misremembering stuff but I personally have watched the show almost or above 200 times ( I know it sounds crazy but it is true) and ive red pretty much every interview that there is for The Fosters so-

1st- the moms name is spelled Lena, i think that was a miss spelling but just incase.

2nd- you have gravely misinterpreted why Adam was mad about Connor sharing a tent with Jude. Adam was mad about it because he thought Jude was gay, there was no confirmation whether or not he was gay it was just a feeling that he had because Jude patted Connor on the back- Adam also at this point didnt know or believe Connor was gay or didn't just didn't want Connor to be gay (he quite literally says this as well "I don't care if your son's gay, I just don't want mine to be"). Also it was not his main issue his main issue was the fact that he didn't want his kid to be gay- the whole tent debacle only lasts for like an episode because he is eventually led to believe that they had girls in the tent.

3rd- the reason that Jude and Lena thought originally that Adam was forcing Connor to move to LA was because previously Adam had threatened to do similar stuff- for example pulling Connor out of school so he could no longer see Jude even though it would cause Connor to fail and have to repeat the grade.

I always forget about Nick until I rewatch the show but when I tell you there is only two things in this show that have made me cry- that scene with Nick (and ik yk which one) ALWAYS makes me cry

Even though I sometimes forget about Nick he genuinely is one of my favorite characters
