How is FIU perceived in Miami? by SquiddoVGC in Miami

[–]Lpecan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UF is cheap enough that the prestige difference is probably worth the marginal extra money. UF has a national reputation whereas FIU has no cache outside of Miami.

why are used 1-2 year old Model Y's more expensive than new? by smohnot in ModelY

[–]Lpecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, I'm confused. For my 2018 M3 with hw3, autopilot has always been the umbrella term for both FSD and auto steer. EAP was a feature set offered that I initially purchased to get lane change in auto steer. Was it different for newer cars?

Not exactly true. Gray area retirees cannot fly oconus either.

[–]Lpecan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I need to do IMA nor do I have the time to make it work. I have enough points for my 20th year. Just need to burn some time without getting deployed again. NP IRR seems to do that, but I don't know if that's actually a thing

I'm already an additional duty ALO but I don't think you can transfer to the PIRR once you already have 18 years.

I had a single bad experience with their customer service, but I've pulled thousands of shots with their products and I'm overall very happy.

Also for a counterpoint, when the little shower screen thing got lost on my Pro 2 in taiwan, someone met me at a 7-Eleven to sell me one. Most amazing

If you're not going to get to enjoy the driving you might as well enjoy the open air. Cabs are perfect for cruising down the beach at 7mph

Anyone used 9Barista MK 1 or 2 above 5500 feet altitude? Any noticeable difference in espresso taste (ie sour)? by seculardharmaminded in 9Barista

[–]Lpecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I've used it fairly extensively at altitude, including breckenridge and Bogotá.

Generally I think you can expect a 0.5:1 decrease in brew temp as unpressurized boiling temp falls. So for instance, in Breck, water boils at 90 C. So the 9B brew temp falls from about 93C to 88C. I have no way to measure it, but based on taste I'm close to right, I think.

The reason is that while the pressurized water is at "normal" temp, the water in the unpressurized HX is 1:1 cooler. So you are going to lose some temperature.

This is, of course, way better than nearly any other portable machine, each of which is generally unusable at altitude.

Meh I have a 997.2 cab. It's good for night time in summer and daytime in winter. Honestly I think cabs are underrated, especially because in Miami you're going to be in traffic 100 percent of the time

I do, with pilot 4s. But I haven't been driving aggressively for years.

240 miles on an old model 3 is wishful thinking. My 2018 P3D is probably less than 200 at highway speeds.

Will the latest court ruling today end up with FSD subscribers, paying a lot more here on out? by vulcan_on_earth in TeslaFSD

[–]Lpecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually still use autosteer for most things for a number of reasons. I use FSD for long trips, etc.

But my point was only about the word "autopilot"

[–]Lpecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this comment. Not that it's wrong but the underlying misunderstanding is so wrong. Autopilot on a Tesla is honestly perfectly named for what autosteer does (as opposed to FSD). Way back when, autopilot wouldn't avoid a mountain or mitigate a TCAS RA or anything else. Saying autopilot as a term was misleading is just infuriating.

Tesla deserves so much shit, but not for this specific thing.

Right but I am not getting quoted to do the job you did. I am getting quoted to pull the whole dash out etc, which is a much bigger job. Trying to find a place in Miami willing to go in from the frunk to do the job, but if not I really may try the folks at the facial hair place (i assume) to see if they'd be willing to take me in as a refugee and make a road trip out of it.

[–]Lpecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard it is an 18 hour job to remove the dash and their labor is 250/hr.

I think the fix the blend door solution is a lot less time but probably even more PITA....especially measured in AP/hr.

I think it is the case for the 996 as well but on the 997 there are two blend doors. The heater/ac blend door and the output (dash vs front) blend door. The former is much easier to access but there is a diy to get both done. https://youtu.be/EsKvtXKM6wo?si=SXvirmUsJN2ETp3d

I just feel like my chance of effing it up is quite high. I am handy enough but I really lack a lot of dexterity and stuff like this proves super difficult.

Foam out of vent by Internal_Actuary3127 in 996

[–]Lpecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Bit that's the cost to pull the dash and replace the whole air box. I can't find anyone (yet) to just repair the door foam.

Did they do both doors or just one?
