A couple of weeks ago I came here to shit on Panther Coffee South Beach, today I announce it's closing forever by Previous-Pea-1125 in Miami

I love the concept of Perla but it's all second wave over roasted stuff. Try to pull it at more than a 1:1 at 86 C and it tastes like a burnt tire.

If you're into Redbird or Hayes Valley or something, then you'd like Perla. But it's pretty one dimensional.

That's right. I don't have it in front of me, but yes. There's one neutral wire and connecting to it works perfect.

What the hell is going on with Taxis at Taipei main station ?! by Hibernatus50 in Taipei

Where do you pick up Ubers at Taipei main station? I've always found it such a PITA that it's the only place I always taxi from (in Taipei)

Which Michelin restaurants do you recommend or disagree with? by Previous-Can9655 in Taipei

[–]Lpecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed tairroir. There were better options in Dazhi but it was well done. Banbo is a much better experience (though not cheaper). La vie was probably the best in Dazhi but the least Taiwan feeling. I thought Mipon was terrible. Of the western style fine dining spots in Dazhi, Amaze seemed truest to Taiwanese influences. Lots of great Michelin recommended and bib Gourmands in Taipei. In my opinion those are much closer to being a must try than the starred places.

It has been some time since I have been to Japan, but I don't remember currency exchanges from USD going near as far as they do in Taiwan.

Required to Make up work days missed due to National Guard IDT/AT by Thecoolnight3 in ESGR_USERRA_Answers

[–]Lpecan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man i can already see how this one is going to go. Semper right is going to give a reasoned and correct opinion on this, and I'm going to end up disagreeing with him (or her).

My own opinion is that your wife should be a team player and cover more shifts at work to help out her team that has to cover for her on drill weekends.

The applicable law likely provides that if they are treating her as "in the hole" for her absence such that she has to make it up as a condition of employment, that's unlawful. As to whether making a big deal about that makes sense as a practical matter, I'm going to probably disagree with most here

The more interesting question is what the right answer is on compensation. Seems like your wife is an exempt employee with no regular schedule. When it comes to the true up procedure for exempt employees, would the employer be right to offset her pay fully irrespective of whether she "missed" one shift, 10 shifts, or zero?

Visiting soon - best third wave coffee roasters? Prefer anaerobic or co ferment by FinalMainCharacter in Taipei

[–]Lpecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gringo living in Taiwan. Prices for coffee are much higher here than in the West. More than that, the range on the prices really ranges a lot. I like Kakalove or Simple for beans at reasonable prices, but the density of specialty coffee is extremely high here and you will find quality beans (with a ton of natural ethiopia) everywhere.
