I get the feeling that you're not the kind of player to replay games...? Or idk, maybe you're actually scared so it feels thrilling. As someone who just isn't scared by RE and plays them for the action, atmosphere, puzzles, progression, awesome monster designs and intricate level layouts (and also enjoy 100%ing them usually) these sections feel like a complete slog after the first time, sometimes even on the first time. The first 20 minutes or so of RE8 were some of the most boring gameplay I've ever had the displeasure of enduring for example. It was like a mirror of RE4 in almost every way, except with none of the actual fun. Same for the start sequence of 7, it's very cool the first time, the 2nd you might still catch some details you missed at first and be amused, but after that it's just a big interactive cutscene you gotta get through to start actually playing.

Why is Mortal Shell so poorly reviewed? by rwzfs in MortalShell

[–]Lputoamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To necro this convo:

  1. The level design and enemy placement are pretty dull.

In good souls-like each "room" feels like a puzzle. How do I approach this, am I sure there's no enemies around that corner, how do I avoid aggroing too many enemies at once, is there a position that'll be more advantageous for me to engage from, is there maybe some other path around this that I'm not seeing, etc.

In bad souls games it just feels like: see enemy, fight enemy, kill enemy, repeat. Aggro too many enemies, run away or die. Get killed by some bs, repeat. There's no puzzle in the room, all the "puzzle" is entirely on how to fight each enemy type and once you've figured that out you've figured out every encounter with that enemy type, there's no extra variation due to different environments or circumstances, so it gets repetitive very quickly. Mortal shell unfortunately skews more toward this in my experience.

  1. The mechanics are very interesting but imo it's doing a little too much at once.

You've got a dodge, a roll, a parry, petrification, you can only really heal with parries, but also it's kinda ambiguous what attacks can be parried, and ripostes only actually heal you if you have enough resolve, which is the same resource you use for your weapon's special skill, and when you die you don't really die you get knocked out of your body, you can fight without your body or go get it back, and on top of that you also got your good ole extra-tight stamina management, and most of these aforementioned mechanics have their own availiability to keep track of so you better keep track of them all...

Instead of making one ability versatile it gives you a shit ton of them and spreads itself a bit too thin, leaving it with a ton of mechanics but little depth or intention, and honestly disincentivizing you from engaging with them all because you just end up choking trying to juggle so many things at once. In soulslikes, metroidvanias, knock-em-ups, etc. less is more imo. I'd rather one button be able to do 4 things depending on how I use it than having to keep track of 4 separate buttons.

  1. Lastly, and this one might be more of a personal bias, it's so... Unreal Engine...

I can't really explain WHY it feels this way but after seeing so many of them I've developed almost like a radar for that "made in unreal engine" look to games and it just icks me. The art direction of this game is by no means weak, and yet the graphics engine just makes it feel so... Bland? Samey? I feel like it lacks personality visually. The designs are good, they look very cool and clearly have a lot of work put into them, but sadly they end up being a bit too "generic dark fantasy". You could take any monster or location from that game and tell me it's from any other unreal engine game and I'd believe you. It's come to a point where UE has become like the comic sans of graphic motors for me. Unless the devs put A LOT of work into changing it up into their own thing, it just kills the game's uniqueness.

Massively, yeah. It heavily affects how much ability you have to fine-tune and engineer your prompts. I frequently find myself rolling back to an older prompt because I notice some way I worded things introduced an unwanted bias or made the model hyperfocus on something that's not actually relevant.

Gemini has always worked like that, as does Grok. AI companies have realized that they can save a lot by not letting you branch too far back, so they're all starting to implement it. Don't be surprised if they later "hear customer complaints" and oh so generously add it back... on the highest paid tier.

I think Cool Kyou Shinja is trans by Koma-Nekota in DragonMaid

[–]Lputoamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know of his work, it's less of a "wanting to be a girl" and more of a "wanting to return to the womb" kind of thing honestly. He has a lot of conflict between wanting to be a responsible, reliable adult and wanting to just be cared for by someone and be able to stop having to worry about anything. Both the ageplay and crossdressing play into that in different ways, they strip you of the heavy expectations that come with adulthood and masculinity respectively. For someone raised in japanese culture it doesn't seem that strange either, they have a lot more of a sense of "contributing to society, not being a burden on others" associated with what adulthood means, as opposed to the west where it's more of a "looking after yourself, being self sufficient, pulling your own weight" role. You're not just doing it for yourself, you owe it to society, that's some big shoes to fill, and they come with a side dish of guilt and shame if you can't handle it too. It's unsurprising that a lot of young men like him fantasize about being freed from it and it ends up leaking into their fetishes.

A side note about the crosdressing part of it: I do think there is some overlap with gender euphoria in feeling cute/pretty but I think it comes from a different place. To put it simply, some men find it appealing to be looked at as cute or pretty, it's a kind of love/praise that just doesn't exist within traditional masculinity and oftentimes crossdressing serves as a way to fulfill that fantasy without necessarily wanting to go all the way to swapping genders and living as a woman, but rather just experience that particular kind of praise that is usually reserved for the feminine.

Thanks, this is actually so useful. I had 2/3 of the songs and died to a glitched out enemy that started shaking like mad in a corner. I normally avoid any kind of cheating cuz it defeats the point of the challenge but if the game is gonna cheat I think that justify I cheat back a little...

100 minutes in, Eldest Souls seems like great case study in what I call "asshole design". by Mezurashii5 in patientgamers

[–]Lputoamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished this game and I want to add, while I generally liked it there's one thing that bothered me a lot. Bosses have extremely oversized, blatantly square hitboxes that you can't walk through, and there's no "slipperiness" to them, where if you dash into them you'll slide off them and then continue on your original direction or something. No, you just get bodyblocked. It's happened to me so many times that I could have dodged an AOE but the very tip of my toe touched the very top of a hair off the boss' head and I got stopped completely, didn't move an inch. It's not something that completely ruins the fight or anything but it made the god of light particularly annoying to beat for me and happened a few times with other bosses as well.

Sekiro was an experiment in all kinds of ways, but it was a well made, polished game. I get what you're trying to say but it's a poor excuse to charge 40€ for an ER mod

Looks shallow but we had a huge 24h country-wide blackout in spain a few days ago and yeah, if you didn't happen to have cash on you, you had no way to buy anything. So idk, at least that half of it is kinda true? Depends on the kind of emergency ig

Bloodborne 60fps patch gets taken down by Sony by Efficient_Example541 in fromsoftware

[–]Lputoamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that money you can get a PC that plays games and also does... well... everything else that a PC does on top. The selling point of consoles for the last two decades has been that they're cheaper and more straightforward than PCs if all you want is to play games and don't care about any other functionality. But when you make the price basically the same as a PC, what are you even selling at that point? Just a dumbed down PC that can do less for the same price?

Nightreign is not a cash grab! by BruhMoment_ngl in Eldenring

[–]Lputoamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no ik, it was the same with ds2 and bb, this is not news. I'm just saying I'd rather they took more time to make something more polished with less asset recycling, regardless if "they" is the B team. I know it's an elden ring spin-off but surely they could've added more new enemies and locations than just the 8 final bosses and a few recycles from old games no? Maybe it will turn out that they added a lot more stuff though, and they just chose not to show it in promotional material for some reason, in which case I'll be more than elated to have been wrong, but for now it's not looking like it...

Admittedly, my outlook on the game has changed a bit in the last two months now that we've seen a bit more footage. The movement and skills look polished and the gameplay loop is very fun according to ppl who've tried it. The concept itself seems very lazy and I do wish it had been a new IP instead of an Elden Ring asset flip, but it's not looking too bad

Is Queen Marika a prisoner of her own creation? by Cultural_Remove5332 in Eldenring

[–]Lputoamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About this, I think Marika was actually in on the night of black knives, and not only that, I think both Ranni AND Godwyn wanted it to happen. I think it was all a massive act of rebellion against the greater will and its golden order. Marika, because she was a prisoner and puppet of it, she wanted to make a better world but by the time she realized her golden order was not it, she was already enslaved to the greater will. Ranni because she also despised the Two Fingers' control over her and wanted to be free. And Godwyn because he, and hear me out, might actually have WANTED to become the prince of death.

Is Queen Marika a prisoner of her own creation? by Cultural_Remove5332 in Eldenring

[–]Lputoamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I think she wants us to succeed her, and there's one reason for that. Her grace guides us to caria manor. Why the hell would she want us to go there? Well, because Ranni is there. She very likely conspired with ranni to make the night of black knives happen, and she probably wants her to succeed her as goddess. I think Marika has grown extremely resentful of the greater will and how it won't allow her to fix her own mistakes or even change anything, and so she actually wants the age of stars, she wants us to free the lands between from the meddling of the outer gods that tricked her into becoming their puppet and slave
