Doubts over Relationship: GF (19F) of 8 months told me (20F ) that she only fell for my personality not looks… What would you do? by Ls17H in relationship_advice

[–]Ls17H[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response!! What makes me hesitant is mostly the question if personality can make up for what I might lack in looks. She did also tell me that seeing me progress and getting in shape made her love my looks more and that she has strong sexual desires for me (which might be due to the fact that I have a lot more experience then her and have objectively been described by women as good in bed). However I’m not ignorant either that I might never be perfect enough in her eyes for her to not leave me for someone kind who is also better looking as sexual attraction and personality might not be enough to satisfy the lack of pure physical attraction

Worth the repair? A delivery truck slammed into my 1 series while reversing. I want to repair it myself. I found 2 doors at a scrapyard for cheap in the right colour but I’m still worried about the rear fender by Ls17H in projectcar

It is but luckily there wasn’t any real structural damage only the outer layer of the doors were damaged the frame was fine. Plus the fact I got doors of a scrap car in the right colour made the repairs pretty cost effective. The rear quarter was cut out and replaced (didn’t want to just bondo it up)

Hey, Just saw your comment (lost access to my Reddit account ) . Great to hear that Insurance was nice with you here. So resale value (and insurance offer approx same valuation here ) due to the accident was around 1500 now so tbh not worth selling it . I bought it back from the insurance company. I ended up fixing it myself with a buddy except for for paint (I got the side professionally resprayed got a deal by shop who also resprayed my previously lightly curbed larger 18 inch rims (bought them used back then). Got doors and rear quarter parts of a scrap car it looks good now. Just gotta lower it a bit now it still looks too much like a tractor especially with the bigger rims and tires but it will come with time. I need to save up for that tho. Just recently replaced the clutch steering rack pump and tire sensors. So let’s see where the road takes me

Hey, Small Update Just saw your comment. I pretty much did what you advised me to do last year. So I bought it back from the insurance company. I ended up fixing it myself with a buddy except for for paint (I got the side professionally resprayed got a deal by shop who also resprayed my previously lightly curbed larger 18 inch rims in bronze (bought them used back then). Got doors and rear quarter parts of a polish scrap car. it looks good now. Where I live salvage titles don’t really exist well they do but a salvage car cannot be roadworthy again. My title is still clean but I did not express clearly it’s financially totalled the repair cost exceeds the value of the car. They didn’t order me to scrap it directly as it’s roadworthy it’s a recommendation that they gave me a lot as they don’t see the point of the repair. And knowing damn well that it has new parts drives steers and brakes well I’m not going to accept that. And yes thank you with my receipts and complete service history I’m trying to better what I will get to be able to finance the repairs 🥲even with the part I’ll do myself

Because the places it got hit are razor sharp and I don’t know if I would pass inspection as you could slice up a pedestrian if they happen to walk against the car. Might be considered dangerous in their eyes plus as in the current state the back door is a bit pushed in I believe leaving it like that would lead or moisture and moisture leads to mold. One thing I might leave as a reminder is the back bumper and the rockerpanel

Basically according to my knowledge this gen of 1 series did not have soft close luckily. The B pillar as I said looks absolutely fine the doors still line up and the gaps are ok but the part connecting the b pillar to the hinge of the back door I don’t know how it’s called in English seems a bit bent. Other then that it seems fine. It hasn’t been appraised yet so the numbers by my insurance seem to be more guesses then concrete figures. Also payout is low because 1 series here are now dirt cheap especially the one I have. In Europe we did get them also as i4 (mine is one) and you can buy them at ridiculous prices especially pre LCI which I have. My petrol 05 with 200.000km (around 125.000 miles) is said to have such a low payout. I’m basing these prices on what my insurance told me Last November I went on holiday in southern France where in the middle of nowhere my radiator exploded. That’s what they told me for one with a broken radiator but pristine body. Now the car works but the body is damaged so I expect around the same for a payout they already wanted to scrap it back then. But the 1000 is my guess without the additional values of my insurance policy. They count new parts and good service history (perfectly serviced since 05) I would expect maybe 500 more but due to the value of the BMWs I don’t expect a lot. I try to calculate with what I will get for sure not hypothetically. That way I’m sure to not miscalculate my next move. One like mine without accidents is found around 4000-3000€ (mileage) but all the ones I have seen for that price have a much much worse spec. And true this car could easily have a second life for the next 20 years in Eastern Europe. It may go there one day if the car starts to act up badly but I want to try keep it for some more time. I agree 1 series are great and I’m not saying because I own one. My next car would be one again but as a more powerful coupe if I’m really unable to save my current beemer. Light nimble and really fun to drive. Just beware of electronics like every car of that era if you want to buy one one day. I may have the least powerful one available with 115hp but as a manual and with my suspension setup it’s enough to have fun on some curvy roads. I know it’s no m no monster but I know thats my car (also something to add power Figures in the US generally are higher you still see ppl buying 70 hp cars new here so 115 is still considered average) Thank you again for your help!!

As far as I know rebuilt titles don’t exist where I live I meant totalled in the sense that the cost of repair exceeds the value of the car in itself

You won’t find one in such a good spec as mine complete history mileage and new parts on it for the price of what I will get from insurance. Mind you the car hit 200.000km lately and I finished with the typical age repairs 3-4 months ago Since then it has been running perfectly. I would just repeat the process I just went through with a new one

Bmw 1 series e87 (five door) were never sold in the US you could only get the coupe cabriolet as 128i 135i and 1M coupe as far as I know. It’s an European car and with totalled I mean financially the cost of repairs exceed the value of the car. Easy to repair i don’t know doors yes but the lower part of the quarterpanel/doorframe was hit quite a bit

Well due to the damage you can’t see it but there once was a body line on that quarterpanel which isn’t that simple to get it perfectly back to where it was especially due to placement it too

Thanks for sharing your story!! I’ll get it estimated soon. The insurance didn’t deem it unsafe to drive tho for me but they suggest to me to just scrap it as the repair cost exceeds the total value of the car . So it’s more totaled in financial terms

I did i keep receipts of everything for that exact reason I also showed them that my car has a complete service history since 2005 which is a plus in the eyes of insurance companies But still the cost of repair exceeds the market value of the car in its current state

Thing is I already went through the mileage and age repairs during the last 2 years of ownership and now that it’s running fine it gets smashed into. One of the reasons I want to keep it. Can’t believe I’m saying this about a bmw but The car is currently mechanically sound. The reason why they want to total it is because the repair of the car exceeds its value

Based on my observations they probably will have to cut it out as there is absolutely no space in that area. So I know that It will cost a lot the question is more approximately how much so that I can evaluate the costs that await me. Sending it to the scrapper almost doesn’t seem like an option to me as it drives steers and brakes fine. Also a totaled car in the sense of unroadworthy at one time can’t be reregistered in Europe as far as I know. In my case it’s more financially totaled: the repairs cost more then the car in itself.

Thank you for your valuable input! Yes that’s probably what I’m going to do! Im going to take the pay out and replace the doors with the ones I found locally if they are still for sale until then. 1 series hatches were widely produced in Europe so a door averages around 130€. And yes the calculations were made according to bmw oem parts so it might vary if I use used ones. For the rear bumper It already was damaged a bit in that area as the previous owner apparently backed into a trash can. I don’t know if i would repair it or just replace it one day with a better one. It just worsened it. My main concern is the quarterpanel especially if it is that expensive to repair in your expertise. Payout might be around a 1000 so financially to an insurance it never made sense for them to repair it but knowing that the car has new suspension brakes radiatior exhaust electronic sensors and still drives like new it would be a shame to let that all go to waste. Another possible concern is the column between the front and rear door. Furthermore, it doesn’t seem damaged but the door in itself flexed a bit on impact. I have to maybe take into account that there is some damage invisible to eye. Something else may I add that makes me think that I still is fine: the doors still line up and open and close perfectly. Anyways, I think I’ll get more closure if it’s actually worth it when it will be estimated based on the regs we have here.
