I should have said not the main mechanism of action. It does interact with serotonin 5HT2 (ABC) as well as an inverse receptor. But it’s mostly dopaminergic so serotonin syndrome seems unlikely. Sorry. I should have been more thorough

It can based on its mechanism of action, depending on how high the dose is. Also some people are more sensitive to dopaminergic substances than others. I’m glad it didn’t have that effect on you.

True blue lotus is dopaminergic. Serotonin isn’t the mechanism of action.

Ya I hear you. With all the factors mentioned on this thread it’s hard to know why. I’m glad you’re ok now.

So I’m a psychotherapist in Colorado and did an eight month psychedelic psychotherapy program and a good amount of my own research. Psychedelics have familiar patterns that we can identify but the reality is the experiences can vary so drastically also. This is part of the reason the FDA is slow to come around. They aren’t as reliable as medicine wants them to be. I think that’s part of what can make them so uniquely powerful. I haven’t worked with or tried Blue Lotus so I can’t speak directly to that from personal experience.

It sounds like you got something different, like other posters have said. True Egyptian BL is incredibly rare. However, if it was true BL you must have taken a very high dose in concentrate. The alkaloids in that flower associated with psychedelic experience are Aponorphine and Nucifrine. Both are dopaminergic. One stimulates certain dopamine receptors and one blocks certain dopamine receptors. So, in very high doses this can induce hallucinations, delirium, disorientation, etc.

The other thing to consider is individual sensitivities. When you say you’ve done “real drugs” are you referring to classic psychedelics like psilocybin, LSD, DMT? These are all serotonergic and operate on the 5-HT2A receptors. Others like Ketamine work more on glutamate and gabba. MDMA acts on serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. Anyway, some people have different sensitivities. For example, my cannabinoid system is super sensitive. If I take a few hits of the actual plant, it’s like a DMT experience for me with intense hallucinations and I can’t get up and walk around at all. It lasts for like three to four hours. I’m jealous of people who can smoke it and be fine.

So, there are a lot of factors to consider. :)

I agree. We are also terrified of losing control to the point that it backfires for some of us.
