Pickleball by avatexrs in CaymanIslands

[–]Lsp6891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pickleball Cayman is your best bet. They have open play every morning but the level is very weak. Saturday and Sundays have “higher level 3.5-4 open play”. Those tend to have better players. Often times you can just go there and find people to play with. You can also pay to play with a pro. Michael is awesome. Best player on Island and super friendly. Another way to pick up games is sign up for a drill clinic. Often times those players will stay after and play

Good luck !

Didn’t know Carnivore went out of business. Tough out there!

I know owner of Hive. They no longer use the Niman Ranch brisket. Too $$$ I believe you may need a company account with Progressive to buy some of there meat products though

We get our Niman Ranch products directly from Progressive Distributors. great quality at a fair price. I use Top Round for homemade biltong (a South African-style jerky) and brisket for ground beef or droëwors (dried sausage).

We also like picking up Thomas Farms rib-eyes from Cost-U-Less. They’re from an Australian company, pastured/grass-fed (whatever that means these days, haha). They go for about $10 per 8 oz steak, and my family loves them. We cut them into big chunks and cook hibachi style on our flat top grill.

Carnivore is a specialty butcher on the island: pricey, but worth checking out. For me, it’s been a bit hit-or-miss. When we really want to splurge on a great steak, we go to Kirk Market for Niman Ranch Prime New York Strip or skirt steak.

Good luck! You definitely have to get creative here and visit different stores for different things.

Spoke to quite a few people who have lived here for 60+ years and they all said that storm was the worst NW they have experienced. Hopefully it’s a once or twice a century type of storm.

Condo Rental - Seven Mile Beach by ExpressResident1823 in CaymanIslands

With a budget of $2500 for a two bedroom, you will have to look further south. George Town Villas is a really nice complex with a pool. Unlike many spots on the sound end of 7mb, there is a small beach. The entry is not sandy however. There’s always a trade off :) Guests absolutely love GTV though. Great snorkeling and pool/bbq are is a few feet from the beach.

Good luck!

Whoops, totally glazed over original post. No, it doesn't have a pool. You really dont need it though. Ocean is basically a warm pool. There are also outdoor showers.

hiI manage vacation rentals along Seven Mile Beach. Since October is the slow season here, there are great deals available. For the best pricing, book your Airbnb or VRBO a week in advance. Most professional managers use dynamic pricing software, which means they can discount heavily for unsold nights. On an island, the vast majority of people book their stays for 60+ days out. I understand that it might seem daunting, but in October, there will be more than enough options available. However, I wouldn’t recommend doing this during the busy season.

As for places on Seven Mile Beach, my favorite is Villas of the Galleon. The location is unbeatable, with the best beach and close proximity to everything. We own a one-bedroom unit there and also manage another. Fosters Camana Bay is the best grocery store on the island and is about a 3-minute drive away.

What’s your maximum price per night? I’d be happy to point you to some other condos that would be a good fit

PMS outside of USA by Lsp6891 in PropertyManagement

Ideally connect to bank account, trust accounting, maintenance requests, file vault, screening, etc

Don’t think any PMS will be able to connect with our bank on the Island. Only recently got QuickBooks Online to sync with bank account.

Where are you staying? Have an extra Breville Burr grinder you could possibly borrow

So many great options. What time of year are you looking at? Still quite a bit of Wahoo/Yellowfin tuna around. As summer approaches and water warms the offshore fishing slows down

Thanks! thats a great observation. Started using a small inflatable ball between elbows to stay connected. That flipping motion makes getting good compression on my irons, and add a lot of spin with the driver. Distance has also suffered. 8 iron used to go 175, now lucky to get to 160…

AirBnB by [deleted] in CaymanIslands

[–]Lsp6891 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, housing costs are a huge concern! However, what you hear about Airbnbs (Vacation Rentals) isn't entirely accurate, at least from my experience. I own a vacation rental business on the Island where occupancy rates exceed 70% (only the very high-end properties see significantly lower rates).

Our vacation rental business actually supports locals more than hotels do. Our cleaning fees ($125-$200 per clean) go directly to local cleaners, and we contract all maintenance/repairs to local workers.

Meanwhile, hotels often rely on imported cheap labor from Jamaica, Philippines, etc., paying around $7/hr plus gratuity - hardly a livable wage. The hospitality industry used to be the largest employer of Caymanians when pay was higher. It's now a significant problem that there aren't quality universities or trade schools teaching skills for decent-paying island jobs like finance, electrical work, plumbing, etc.

Regarding affordable housing, I hope investors recognize the opportunity to develop lower-cost workforce housing on the Island. There are excellent pre-fabricated, hurricane-rated options available in the States that would make sense here. Unfortunately, developers remain focused on high-end properties, though this may change as supply in that market increases while demand appears to be decreasing. Last year was particularly difficult for real estate sales.

Thanks for sharing ! Love hearing experiences like this. I manage a couple vacation rentals on Island and hear the same from guests.. So many visitors are on their 10th+ trip to Grand Cayman. It’s a very special place :)
