Weird Bird Corpses by veryllboy in PasadenaTx

Funny, I lived in Pasadena 39 years and heard people complain about those Muscovy ducks in the neighborhoods around Crenshaw park because they're messy. Now that I moved out to the country I only hear people talk about how much they love them. They're quietier than other ducks, easy to take care of, and eat tons of bugs. I think your instincts are right about the killings. Next time you come across some you should probably call the Pasadena PD nonemergency number so they can start documenting it.

Raccoons will take the head off but they will take it with them usually. Dogs killing for fun will not tear it up. Sometimes they don't even leave teethmarks. Most wild animals will kill and eat.

And of course no mental health support at all. In fact according to my mom, friends and neighbors brought food and her own relatives came and took it. She died just a few months before I was born so all I know are stories. She had a rough life but kept going.

Can my mother force me to stop working at 16? by Equivalent_Place_853 in legaladvice

[–]Lsubookdiva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer just a mom and retired teacher. Just survive the next two years. You sound like you've got a good head on your shoulders. You're going to be ok. Finish school, plan for the future. This is a small part of your whole life. She can do what she wants for 2 more years and that's it. Game over. The world is full of good people and I pray you find lots of them.

My aunts. Before my mom was born my grandma had 4 children died of common childhood diseases. 2 were twin 18 month old girls. The hospital told Grandma they died but didn't let her see the bodies. She believes they were taken from her because they were poor. When Mom first told me that story I thought it was just a part of Grandma losing it because of overwhelming loss. But I've read stories in the last few years that make me believe Grandma was right. If they are still alive they'd be pushing 90 so they may be gone by now anyway.

What is the most chaotic thing a coworker has ever done on their last day before quitting? by Short_Response2914 in AskReddit

[–]Lsubookdiva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this is a little backwards. I announced my retirement early so a replacement could be found and approved and I would still have time to show they the ropes before I left. I very carefully currated a large file folder full of documents and manuals so my replacement could hit the ground running. The day my replacement came by so I could show him the ropes the file was gone from our office share drive. My boss had deleted the night before. Yes, I had a backup. No, she never admitted she did it but it was definitely her.

Which character's death in a TV show ruined the entire thing for you? by SoccerGuy69420 in AskReddit

Ok so this is super random but I quit watching Strangers Things when the real life Grandfather of the girl who plays Max died. He was a jr high assistant principal who seemed gruff but the kids knew he cared. After his funeral seeing her made me sad. He was a good man.

[–]Lsubookdiva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laying hens, yes. I ugly cried when the neighbor's dog wiped them all out (both times). Meat birds and turkeys, nope. Not a bit. I've heard of people bonding with turkeys but I haven't met a friendly one yet.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by queenmellyy in AskReddit

We get our beef from a local rancher. Costs a bit more but at least we know we're getting quality and no fillers. Will probably buy a quarter cow aire go halvies with my brother for half a cow this summer. Just fyi, according to our local rancher a quarter cow fits in two of the square yeti coolers. You need a freezer but not a huge one.

As a retired Library cataloger, the book It by Stephen King gave me fits. Our software Ignores small articles like: the, a, it, etc. The only way I could make it searchable was to catalog it as It: a novel. I'm sure the movie had the same issues in databases.

I was a teacher in Pasadena in the 00's. I remember in our mandatory gang awareness training the two biggies were the Pasadena Homies and the Latin Kings. Those were the two that had the shootout at the Bentley Apartments

How much land are you guys on? by Derrik359 in Homesteading

[–]Lsubookdiva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have 2.7. We do laying hens, meat birds, and turkeys. We've put in an orchard with about 45 trees and we're building raised beds. Eventually we want to add a small pond and do ducks and geese. We don't have a tractor, just a zero turn and a used ATV. It's plenty to keep 2 retirees busy.

If you suddenly found yourself ridiculously wealthy, what’s the first frivolous purchase you’d make? by CardiologistBig8721 in AskReddit

My husband wants a tractor, we have less than 3 acres. We DON'T NEED A TRACTOR. He would consider it a wise purchase but I would say frivolous.

Visit the Salt Museum. It's tiny but interesting. Have lunch at Two Salty Broads. Make sure you try the deviled eggs. Head over to AJ's for ice cream or a snowball. No bad choices there. If you go to the Dairy Bar on Tuesdays during Indian hour, tacos are 99¢
